Saffron’s owner shares that Afghanistan is a country of over 10,000 years old and its people have learned so many ways of cooking with spices and creating amazing flavors. He believes that food will bring people peacefully together. He knows how very important it is to get to know each customer and build a relationship with them. In fact, David refers to customers as “guests” and they are treated as such.
The delicious food offerings not only come from Afghanistan, but also Iran, Turkey, Lebanon and Greece. All of the foods contain rich spices hailing from Afghanistan. Saffron, the spice that the restaurant is named after, comes from Afghanistan. The special flat bread used for dipping into the unique sauces is made in his bakery in NY.

Came in for lunch on a Sunday with family. Thoroughly impressed with the flavors of the dishes. Authentic Mediterranean cuisine featuring signature dishes from many countries. Staff was incredibly friendly and guided us through everything the menu had to offer. Highly recommend!!!

The food was ok, not an experience so to speak. Service and people polite but didn’t hit home. Tried it because the higher rating and area but wouldn’t recommend. The cake at the very end was dryer out and the Dr Pepper bottle I drank expires in less than 30 days…

Beautiful restaurant, good service , the meat was flavorful however the rest of my plate was plain tasting . Service was excellnet until it came down to pay, I had to ask the gentleman at the bar eating , do I go up to pay ? As he is eating he says I’ll get that for you,
We are nearly done with our experience, is not when you sit down to eat. Working in restaurants I was kind of shocked . The desert was dry and old and before saying anything , it’s like they knew it was. A little disappointed in that . My appetizer was excelllent .

My husband and I had dinner here last night. The whole experience and meal was nothing short of amazing! From the time we walked in the owner was very attentive and so delightful! He explained the whole menu and everything on it as it was our first time there. Also, the place is decorated very nicely. We ordered a cold and hot combination starter, the Anwar Special, lemon caramel cake, and the Afghan cookies. We obviously planned on taking half home, and so glad we did! The food was absolutely delicious; probably one of the best meals I’ve ever had. The wine we had, and tea with our desserts were both very nice touches and tasty as well. We will definitely be back because I’m already craving another cookie!

I am glad that I found this hidden gem while looking on Google! I dined here about a week ago for lunch with a colleague of mine and we both had a great experience. We were the only ones there and were immediately greeted by the gentleman there. He was very thorough and explained all of the items that we had questions about and even informed us of the different specials that they had. I ordered the chicken kabob with a variety of rice and vegetables. The food was absolutely amazing! The chicken was very well seasoned and the rice blend complimented it perfectly. We did not have to wait long at all for our food which was great. You also receive the side of bread with two dipping sauces that were pretty good as well. The portion sizes are great! I feel that you get a good amount of food for a very reasonable price. I look forward to dining here again!

There’s so many things wrong with this. I ordered the Saffron Combination for 2. On the menu, it was just over $30 for lunch, but this total came to $47. Understanding inflation, I didn’t say anything. For this amount of food though? This is ridiculous. Do not come here. I cannot believe I spent $50 on this. The lamb also was not good. DO NOT COME HERE. The chicken and rice were the only good things, everything else had a weird taste and was just bad. Very sad because the owner was really sweet.

My favorite place to get Mediterranean style food in Newport News. I usually go at a time when no one is there. I get the lamp kabob with rice and as an appetizer I get hummus and bread. The lamb is tender and delicious. Nice quiet family owned type restaurant. Highly recommend

Super nice spot located in Hilton Village. Very Intimate location, small dining room and very fancy. Owner/host was super friendly and talked about the food and was quick to answer any questions. We had a very nice evening and it was a event, not just dinner. We will be back FOR SURE. Try the hot tea, it was amazing. Lamb Kabob was great, and the baklava is GREAT. Definitely a good date spot. 100 out of 10 review.

It’s a cute place but the food is really bad. It’s very oily and usually steak kabobs are soft but these ones are super hard. We will not be coming back.
