Outpost of upmarket steakhouse chain known for sizzling, butter-topped beef in an elegant setting

Ate here on Christmas Eve solo as I’m a flight attendant and just wanted something great to eat as I’ve been working through the holiday season. I want to say that the dining experience here was superb and everything from the gracious host whose name I forgot (apologies) to my awesome waitress Pamela made me feel very comfortable. I genuinely appreciated the whole experience.
The food itself was top notch. I ordered the lobster mac & cheese along with the Stuffed Chicken Breast which was amazing. I also thoroughly enjoyed their Manhattan drink to top it all off.
Not once did I feel out of place as it seemed every table was filled and you could tell it was a busy night.

Celebrating my birthday at Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Harbor Point, San Diego was an absolute delight! The atmosphere is breathtaking, with an elegant yet cozy vibe that’s perfect for special occasions. The food was phenomenal—steaks were perfectly cooked, bursting with flavor, and well worth the price. The service was exceptional; the servers were not only kind and attentive but also incredibly sweet to my kids, making the experience even more memorable for our family. Booking was effortless, thanks to my husband’s smooth experience, and the complimentary dessert of my choice was a lovely birthday treat. Ruth’s Chris truly excels in every way, delivering a top-notch dining experience. Highly recommend for families and special occasions alike!

The service was initially good but declined as the night wore on. We had to ask for our waiter twice before he returned to our table after our food arrived. Issue, my sister’s fillet was very rare and she requested for her fillet to be cooked a bit longer. My fillet was not so rare cooked to my liking, shown in the picture. I was almost done with my meal when she finally received her fillet back. After taking a few bites her fillet was grizzly and fatty. The onion soup, as shown in the picture, was served without cheese, and the waiter did nothing to fit it. My salad had large blue cheese chucks, not like creamy dressing, it was dry. One server kept trying to clear our table too early, we did not get to enjoy all our bread. Our desserts arrived before my sister was finished eating, so the desserts sat on the table for a while till she was done with her meal, which was disappointing we were celebrating her birthday. We doubt that we will be returning anytime soon with this latest experience at 1355 N Harbor Dr, San Diego. Disappointed customers!

Jeremy “Gerry” was handsdown, the best waiter that I’ve ever had! Amazing all around! Cool personality, and genuinely took care of us like family. This was my first time at Ruth’s Chris, and wow, what an experience. Fresh bread, so good. Scallops, another best that I’ve ever had, filet mignon 11oz with the lobster tail, and the dessert, I added the pictures, you see it. If I had to pick a “last meal,” this would be it. So so good! Espresso Martini another winner! Definitely looking forward to another visit in the future!

The views at this location are breath taking. We enjoyed every moment from arrival to departure with above that was to notch. Menu has a lovely variety of options and a great new option with a 3 course meal with upgrades for all chances to enjoy the menu items. Special occasions treated with intimacy and thoughtfulness. Won’t ever stop coming here. Both pictures are filet mignon with Brussel sprouts and garlic mashed potatoes.

The table we were sat at was an odd shape being a corner booth but it did feel separated from one side to the other because of the size. The backdrop of the harbor at night was beautiful staff and our waiter was great. The food was fantastic as expected. Our party liked to share so we had the pleasure to try the calamari (Asian day sauce flavor) and artichoke dip (which was more on the chunky side) booth really good…. oh, and the bread and butter was amazing. We also tried the salmon and shrimp, Tomahawk Ribeye, Mac and cheese, sweet potato, all delicious. The shrimp was oder cooked for my liking but still great flavor. For dessert we got to try the Crème brûlée which was great. Over all we had a great time, great food, great service. Great place to celebrate a birthday.

Shared the 22 oz rib eye with my hunny. Deeelicious! Perfectly cooked, thick cut and juicy. The creamed spinach wasn’t as good as I remember. The atmosphere wasn’t so bad, it’s just a bit loud, however, it consists more of many mumbled conversations vs. high pitched. Service is always superb.

While exploring Seaport Village we decided to make last minute reservations here. I’ve known of Ruth’s Chris forever, but this is the first time I popped into one
This location is prime San Diego real estate overlooking the Bay and out towards Coronado Island. The layout is a little bizarre as the entire lobby downstairs is bare other than a staircase, restrooms, and light decor. You walk upstairs into the main dining area, but the hostess stand is up the stairs and all the way to the back. This was confusing to me. I would have assumed they would put it either downstairs in the lobby or just at the top of the stairs. There wasn’t a noticeable sign indicating where to go either
The dining area was elegant and very intimately lit. I had known that this was a “fancy” steakhouse chain, but I didn’t expect it to feel as “stuffy” like a formal dining area on a cruise ship (unnecessarily formal for what it is). The menu offers all the cuts of steak you would expect, sides, appetizers, and other entrees. The cocktail menu was underwhelming, but with “NYC style pricing.” One thing I don’t love with “fancy steakhouses” is having everything a la carte. I like having at least a side of veggies, asparagus, or a Caesar salad without having to build my meal piece by piece.
We weren’t incredibly hungry, so, we just ordered two filets and some garlic mashed potatoes to share. I will say everything tasted delicious. I have no notes. Was it the best steak I’ve ever had? No. But it was delicious. Also, they provide a complimentary bread and butter basket while you’re waiting for your food and drinks
The service was good. We got our meal and everything in a timely manner and there weren’t any issues. Our server was a little bizarre though. I don’t know how to articulate exactly what it was, but this individual made me uncomfortable. They took the order professionally, offered suggestions, and tried to be friendly, but everything this person was saying was some what confusing in terms of verbiage and the demeanor was trying to be “fine dining” but it really came off as creepy and uncomfortable. Again, I can’t exactly put it into words, they were absolutely trying to be friendly and a good server, but every interaction just felt off, and we were just waiting for this person to leave us alone again
I don’t know that I would go back to a Ruth’s Chris myself, but I will say it’s probably a nice date or celebratory spot for anyone that likes to feel as if they’re dining in a fancy restaurant. I think at this point in my life that’s just not me. I enjoy an elevated dining experience, but I like a little more flair or personality, and less of a stuffy and overly priced steakhouse chain feeling
Some tips:
If you are celebrating something special you should let them know in advance as they try to accommodate and add some celebratory flair to the meal if they know in advance. We parked near the Unconditional Surrender statue as we were exploring, so, we didn’t have to deal with parking at the restaurant. Also, try to snag or reserve a window seat to get a better view of the waterfront (especially at sunset)
Cheers!!

We had eaten here before and loved it but unfortunately this time was a total miss. First thing was artichoke dip we got tasted burnt which I assume was because there were more sun dried tomatoes than artichoke. After that the French onion soup my wife ordered tasted like gravy. We had had it before and it was really good, but not this time. My Cesar salad was all white lettuce with no green at all. Once again we had it the first time we were there and it was nice and green. It only got worse as the petite fillet mignon my wife ordered came out basically raw. Mine was fine and we both ordered it the same way. So food was a huge miss especially with the reputation and our first experience here.
The one bright spot was our server was awesome. She came over and tried to make the best of it and really did a great job.
For the price this was a major disappointment.
