The Nail, as its known by the locals, is the famed iconic surfer bar and restaurant that made a name for itself in the 70s. It’s right here at the Beach Shack, just steps away from your room. Back in the day lifeguards, surfers and beautiful beach bunnies gathered around the wood bar that was rumored to be the longest in all of Cape May. Now its your turn to join in the fun for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Now that the Beach Shack is open from May-December, so is The Nail, with the same great live entertainment and classic seaside menu.
Lively hangout with a rustic bar, deck & fire pit serving American eats & clever cocktails.

My husband and I always enjoyed stopping here for drinks when we come into this town. We love having a beer and putting our feet in the sand. Today we decided to try their food. It was very good. We had the little necks, sorry no picture. They were delicious. My husband had the flounder sandwich and I had the pulled pork sandwich with the coleslaw. The food and service were very good. We did decide to have one more drink by the fire pit and some live music. Very nice.

5-Star Vibes at Rusty Nail’s Beach Shack!
We had a fantastic time at Rusty Nail’s Beach Shack tonight! We walked in with no reservation and were seated immediately—huge bonus! We chose to dine outside in the beach area, and the atmosphere was absolutely beautiful. The ocean breeze, the lights, the sand—it felt like a little getaway.
Our server was new and working solo during training, and while he was friendly and eager to help, the only suggestion we’d make is to check in a bit sooner after meals arrive—just to make sure everything’s good! We also didn’t realize we had to hand the check back to him (we thought we paid up front), which caused a bit of confusion. Next time, a quick heads-up would be helpful. But overall, he did great and held it down under pressure!
Great food, amazing vibe, and a memorable night. We’ll definitely be back!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Rusty Nail, and I was genuinely impressed with the entire experience. The food was absolutely delicious—each dish was flavorful, fresh, and clearly made with care. Whether you’re in the mood for something hearty or light, there’s something on the menu for everyone.
The service was equally impressive. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel welcome and comfortable. They were attentive without being overbearing, and always ready to answer questions or offer recommendations. It’s clear they care about their guests and take pride in what they do.
The atmosphere of the restaurant was wonderful. It has a cozy yet lively vibe that makes it perfect for both a casual night out or a special occasion. Whether you’re going with friends, family, or on a date, you’ll feel right at home.
Overall, Rusty Nail delivered on all fronts—great food, excellent service, and a warm, inviting atmosphere. I’m already looking forward to my next visit!

I cannot say enough about this lively little beach side hang out! FUN FUN FUN. Great drinks, great snacks, great service. During our visit, they had a Pacifica Beer group that was giving away a nice variety of items with your beer purchase…which made this visit even more fun! Even our dogs enjoyed our visit!

Excellent place to eat with good service, great food and vegetarian options. The outdoor seating was really nice with a beach like atmosphere; sand, lounge chairs with umbrellas, and a couple of fire pits. Some good relaxing live music in the background was also a nice added bonus.

It’s such a fun place for drinks or dining. They have a great outside spot with plenty of seating. The inside even has large doors for fresh air. The veggie item I tried was the grilled tofu tacos. They substituted guacamole for me.

This was a fun beachy place to go for a casual meal. It was nice sitting outside listening to the music. I wouldn’t come here for the food which I thought was just okay but being by the water and sitting in the sand was nice. There were a ton of kids jumping around in the sand by the eating area so very kid and also dog friendly. It was
a bit expensive for what the food was but you’re paying for the ambiance and being by the water.

Its nice because you can sit outside at tables in the sand around big fire pits. There food is really good, service isn’t bad.

Drinks and food were tasty, we try the pork nachos and chicken tacos, both of them decently priced and flavorful. Rumanian bartender was very nice and friendly. Outside fireplace was also a nice assest. Nice experience overall.

Recommended! Huge shaded outdoor space (indoors too), locals and tourists here, dog friendly, staff attentive and friendly and extremely accommodating (Wamzy!. That alone is worth a visit with the nice beer menu and broad food selection. We went with the strawberry wings (too sweet for our liking) order the jam sauce on the side, the cream dipping sauce was excellent), fries were exceptional and perfect, chicken sandwich and turkey panini both very tasty. My puppy got a bowl of iced water, we passed on the cute food products for him. Manage expectations on food basic pub food. Enjoy this spot!
