The restaurant is located very close to the city center, yet on a wide pedestrian street with no cars. That alone makes the setting pleasant. You arrive without traffic noise, without chaos. Big windows, lots of light, a lively but not frantic atmosphere. Inside, it’s slightly tight — tables are placed quite close to one another — and you will hear your neighbors’ conversations. But that feels more like a space optimization decision than poor planning. The place is popular and clearly busy.
We were greeted warmly, and everyone seemed aware it was my birthday. The first thing brought to the table were two flutes of Prosecco, on the house. A simple gesture, but it immediately created the right mood. It felt thoughtful rather than theatrical.
Baixamar specializes in seafood and fish, and lobster was firmly on my mind. They have live lobsters in a tank, and I chose mine myself. I asked for it prepared simply — boiled, then finished lightly with garlic oil. No heavy sauces, no garnish overload. I didn’t even order side dishes because I wanted the focus entirely on the lobster.
And it was very well executed. The meat was high quality, tender, flavorful, and fresh. One claw wasn’t fully cooked through — that was noticeable — but it didn’t ruin the experience because the rest of the lobster was excellent. When seafood is this good, simplicity works.
My husband ordered tuna steak, cooked medium-well with pink in the center and properly seared edges. It looked beautiful on the plate and he was genuinely happy with it. Always a good sign.
Service throughout the evening was attentive without being intrusive. They checked in at the right moments, suggested wines appropriately, and explained desserts. We ended with the “floating island” dessert — something I had never tried before. It’s essentially a light, airy meringue floating in cream, and thankfully not oversweet. A very pleasant ending.
In terms of price, this is not a budget dinner, but for fresh seafood in a central Lisbon location with strong service and a special-occasion feel, it aligns with expectations. My 630 g lobster was €69 for the reference.
For me, it was a smooth, celebratory evening with excellent service and very good food — exactly what a birthday dinner should feel like.
The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, and the staff were friendly and attentive, making the experience even more enjoyable. Definitely a place to return to and highly recommended!
What really made the experience special was the service. Andrei was amazing—very kind, accommodating, and never pushy. He suggested several options that suited both our taste and our budget, which we really appreciated. He even made the effort to entertain my son, which meant a lot to us as a family.
We started with the prawn, avocado, and mango salad (with shrimp). It was super fresh and full of flavor. For mains, we shared the sea bass fillet with jacket potatoes and roasted vegetables, the linguini nero with seafood from the Portuguese coast, and the octopus à lagareiro. Everything was delicious. The octopus was incredibly tender, which says a lot because it is not easy to cook it that well.
If you order the linguini nero, just a quick tip: make sure the seafood shells are open. If any are closed, avoid eating them. Ours were perfect, but it’s always good to check.
We also had a 50cl beer which was cold and refreshing, perfect for a warm day. The atmosphere was relaxed, the staff were welcoming, and the service was excellent. Everyone was friendly and attentive without being overbearing.
Just a heads-up for first-time visitors. If you ask for water and bread, you will be charged. Make sure to check the price so you are not surprised when the bill comes. That said, the staff were not pushy at all, unlike some other restaurants.
If you are in the area and want a quality Portuguese meal with great service, this place is definitely worth a visit.
Thanks a lot! We will definitely come back ❤️
