Russell’s is our new favorite spot! It is so well appointed, from the thoughtful breezeway as you enter (they literally moved the doorway entrance when they bought from Tavern on Grand) to the little lamps they provide at your bar space to the brass hooks in the ladies room to keep your purse while you wash your hands! Then there is the food and drinks which are phenomenal! But most importantly is wonderful staff—we love Antonio (manager) and Maggie and Jocelyn. These are seasoned restaurant professionals. It seems Russell’s has created such a positive workplace culture that long tenured folks from other great local establishments have sought this place out! Wow! Oh and they have great dinner music piped through the whole place! Wow!!!

We were looking for a place that served steak — also, we wanted to see what kind of new restaurant is occupying the former location of Tavern on Grand (sorely missed).
Never had a bad Guinness until today. It was flat, not creamy and even a bit sour? Maybe I shouldn’t have ordered Guinness outside an Irish pub.
For the food we had the crocus hill burger (which comes with shoestring fries) and the (coffee rubbed) steak. Their presentations were a bit …aloof… and the taste was nothing to write home about. Even the side of mushrooms exhibited more effort with its browned onions. That might be the only highlight of the dinner.
Overall it just feels like they had their priorities wrong. Or maybe my priorities don’t align with that of the restaurant’s. Like, the bathroom had high quality paper towels but the sinks are dirty. The menu is well-worded but the food failed to deliver. Unfortunately I don’t think I will be returning.
Edit: saw another comment mentioned sound deadening panels on the ceiling. I actually noticed those in the restaurant and wondered what they are. This is definitely a good thing.

Russell’s exceeded expectations. The 1920s–1940s inspired atmosphere strikes the perfect balance of charm and authenticity, creating an inviting backdrop for our happy hour. Service at the bar from Dennis was attentive and well-paced, enhancing the overall experience. The food was excellent, particularly the dry rub chicken wings, which stood out not only for their flavor but also for the generous accompaniment of fresh vegetables, a thoughtful touch that set them apart.

Yikes everything was great but the food to price does not add up. Me and my wife got the wedge salad it had 8 pieces of lettuce! I get economic reasons for cutting costs but it’s a 21.00 salad?
The wings were pigeon size, smallest things you will ever see. Amazing flavor but so small! The chicken dinner was dry and again small but the sauce was great? I don’t know where the portions are coming from but everything was so small! It’s obvious the chef has talent but the sizes and quality for the price just oof… no chance I will go back.
The drinks top notch! And service amazing but price to food I can’t bring myself back!
Ok…. So maybe I would for a drink because no joke the old fashioned was beyond good!

This was our first visit at Russell’s. I can promise it will not be our last. The food and drinks here were prepared with meticulous skill. The Classic Steak was amazing. Perfectly rare with a thin crust that is hard to describe. The walleye was tender and flaky with a sublime sauce that you must try. The service is exc and atmosphere here is warm and relaxing.

Russell’s was amazing! We were seated quickly and our server, Catherine, was knowledgeable and we discussed the menu with excitement and mouth watering detail. The Walleye nachos were great! There were large chunks of perfectly beer battered fish strips. The chicken wings had a little kick of spice but were perfectly cooked, still tender inside but crispy on the outside! Best wings I’ve had. The dry rub had complex flavors that was enjoyed by all.
I had the beet arugula salad with goat cheese.. The flavor was rich and the dressing was perfectly balanced with the smooth creamy goat cheese.
Lastly, the bread pudding was crispy on the outside, smooth and dense within. The outside was slightly salted which paired perfectly with the rich custard flavor of the center and the sweet ice-cream on the side.
Members in my party also got the salmon, spring chicken and burger. All three of my kids cleaned their plates.. and raved with every bite about how amazing their dishes were. I’d highly recommend enjoying dinner here. The women’s bathroom was a beautiful pale pink with gold accents and immaculately clean!
Perfect experience for our visit to St. Paul.

Deserves more stars, every item on the menu we had was delicious and cooked to perfection. Appetizers we tried and enjoyed : squash bisque, onion rings, fries. Went with the coffee rub NY strip steak and the flavor was perfect, then ended our meal by splitting the three deserts on the menu and life by chocolate is the one you should pick if you can’t decide, coming from someone who’s not a chocolate fan. Staff is friendly and the service is some of the best I’ve seen in a restaurant, a true example of what a restaurant should be. Quiet dining area but also have a bar area for watching sports. Can’t wait to come back

Atmosphere was moody and classic chic. Service was exceptional, food was elevated and prompt. Enjoyed a birthday dinner with a party of eight, services were compatible with event and made it a memorable experience. Will return.

Wow, keeps getting better! This time the family went for dinner. Russell’s accommodated our party of four with no reservation, Thank You! My son was visiting from TX and we enjoyed the Burger, Fish, Beet Salad, Wings and a couple of adult beverages, All Very Delicious! It’s a MUST visit when in St. Paul!!! Top notch Service from Dennis, Rose & Josh tonight. Owner, Todd and his staff stopped by each guest to ensure a good time. The food was delicious, we enjoyed the appetizers, but will be back to taste the Full Menu! Definitely an added bonus to Grand Ave. BTW, anyone would enjoy the Russel’s Old Fashioned and that’s from my fellow Beer drinker guest. Priced $50 to $75 per person to drink socially & try a couple menu items. We’ll worth it!

Oh my God—this place is as homey as a restaurant can be. We called at 6 on a Saturday asking for reservations, and the owner (Todd?) promised we’d get seated as soon as we walked in. He delivered with special settings at the bar.
Pauley served us some amazing drinks—the Rosemary Paloma was perfection (I had two) and I had no idea until he told us that it was his first night at the bar. He was phenomenal!
We ate amazing food—spinach and artichoke dip (so good! I’ve never liked it before but this was ah-ma-zing!) steak (without A1!) and the crème brûlée AND bread pudding. I highly recommend.
The atmosphere is so comfortable and classy. It has heart and I will definitely come back any time I’m in Minnesota.
