Social Profile:

Russell’s Barbecue has been a family favorite in Elmwood Park since 1930, serving classic barbecue beef, pork, and ham sandwiches with our signature coleslaw. We honor tradition by using time-honored recipes while embracing new flavors, adding smoked brisket, pulled pork, and chicken in 2010. Our meats are slow-smoked for over 16 hours, delivering deep, rich flavors. Whether dining in, ordering takeout, or catering, we make every meal memorable. Open 365 days a year, Russell’s is more than a restaurant—it’s a Chicago tradition. Order online or visit us today!

The pictures dont do it justice. I couldn’t stop eating to be able to take a picture. My apologies on half the food being gone. Food was great. Slightly on the pricey side of things but well worth it. You order and go sit down and food comes to you. The meats are pretty large portions. Sides not so much Jalapeno Poppers were amazing as an appetizer.

Been 18 years since my last visit. Came here with my dad as a special treat in the 80’s. Great aura when walk through the door! Just like the old days. Brisket was tasty and filling! Everyone in our party enjoyed the food!

Best barbecue beef sandwich in the history of forever. My parents used to go here in the 1940s. I’m originally from Chicago and this is the best. Whenever I visit I go there at least twice. Now they have a huge menu but I always get the barbecue beef sandwich.

Russell’s BBQ has been part of my life since before I could walk, and my family has been coming here for generations. I still sit in the very same booths my grandparents and parents once did, and the nostalgia is every bit as good as the food. The ribs and sauce are timeless, the cole slaw has a fresh and amazing vinegar base, and even vegetarians are covered with a surprisingly tasty veggie burger. This place is a true Elmwood Park landmark—classic, consistent, and full of memories.

Russell’s Barbecue on Thatcher Avenue is a true Chicago landmark for anyone craving old-school barbecue with real flavor. I highly recommend the barbecue chicken. It’s definitely one of the best items on the menu. The Smoked Meat Combo Dinner is also a great choice if you want to try more than one meat, like brisket, pulled pork, or chicken, and it comes with one cold side and one hot side. I went with the potato salad and a baked potato. Their signature barbecue sauce has a unique flavor that really sets it apart from the usual. On top of that, Russell’s serves fresh cake and cookies for dessert, and they’ve got beer if you’re looking to dine in and relax. With its retro vibe, generous portions, and drive-thru convenience, it’s easy to see why this place is a local favorite.

I always heard about my dad coming here a lot back in the day. So my husband and I finally went. I had the junior pulled pork, which was not really pulled, it looked like deli sliced turkey. My husband got the smoked brisket, which was a lot better. I would definitely go back for that and the fries. The fries were really good, a lot better than I thought they would be. It has an old school vibe in there, with oldies music playing and it feels like we should have been there after the Friday night football game. It’s divey, but clean.

Cool spot! Has an old school, little country town, side of the road diner vibe. Plenty of parking, indoor, outdoor seating, a bar, drive-through, and friendly staff! The prices were very reasonable. Great food selection. It’s definitely good for a big group and perfect for small groups. I will definitely be back to try more food options. Stop by if you are in the area. Ribs were delicious!

Honestly, if you’re craving good BBQ and fish dinners, they have it. Order the full slab of ribs with fries—and you know I had to get the coleslaw. The portions were pretty big, and the place is spacious, so you can sit wherever you’d like.

Cool old time BBQ joint, stopped here after seeing the neon sign from the main road. Brisket was good, pork was excellent and we really enjoyed the “other” bbq sauce. The mac and cheese and the original sauce were the only things we didn’t care for. Loved the atmosphere of this place, wish we had something like this closer to home!

Russell’s Barbecue in Elmwood Park isn’t just a spot to eat; it’s a trip down memory lane. During my latest visit, I was instantly transported to my younger days, with the echoes of 50’s and 60’s classics setting the mood. This establishment beautifully juxtaposes its old-school aura with modern touches, like the state-of-the-art self-serve beverage machines, making it a unique blend of the past and present.

While their pulled pork tantalizes with its sweet and smoky notes, it’s the BBQ Chicken that truly stands out. It’s not only delectable but also one of the few places that serve such a generously-sized, juicy chicken. Additionally, their extensive BBQ menu, featuring a range of ribs and chicken, is nothing short of perfection. The warm embrace of the venue, combined with the sincere Midwestern hospitality of the staff, conjures a setting where nostalgia intertwines with modernity.

A meal at Russell’s goes beyond the palate. It’s an experience, a chance to cherish old memories and make new ones in a venue that masterfully bridges eras.
