On June 6, 2024 in the early evening my friends and I were seated in the Ruttger’s dining area. I looked at the menu earlier that day to select my entrée which was the Wild Rice Bowl. It sounded delicious because I have had similar dishes before made with purple cabbage and was looking forward to crispy baked purple tofu in garlic oil. Properly baked tofu is very crispy on the outside while flavorful and moist on the inside. So I hope you can appreciate my bitter DISAPPOINTMENT when I was served BARELY SAUTÉED, WHITE, LIMP tofu. I took a bite to discern its flavor I discovered it had none, other than RAW tofu. Regarding the advertised promise of garlic oil and baked purple tofu: there was none, I refused to eat it and had the waitron send it back. After around ten minutes the waitron presented me with the cooks mitigated version, the only difference was the tofu this time was deep fried in an attempt to attain a crispy exterior but like the first version it was FLAVORLESS and once again I had the waitron remove it from our table. My final DISAPPOINTMENT: the waitron did not offer me an opportunity to select an alternate entrée at a reduced or free cost. The only bright spot was the price of my dinner was reduced to zero.
My final verdict: Phbbfpt.
I assure you I will never dine in this restaurant again nor will I recommend it to any of my friends or acquaintances.

For starters, I get goosebumps every time I walk into those hallowed halls. The great ceilings, the nostalgia, the history….if only those walls could talk….
I’d go to Ruby’s to eat week old Kraft mac ‘n’ cheese just to be there and soak it all in, but luckily I don’t have to.
In fact, the converse of that is also true….I’d go to eat in a cinder block bunker in January to enjoy the wonderful tablefare served at Ruby’s. You can tell pretty quickly, and pretty easily, when you’re dining at an establishment that employs a team of chefs versus a handful of cooks….and the chefs at Ruby’s/Ruttger’s don’t disappoint. There are people who are “chefs” by title only, and then there are true culinary artists. The chefs at Ruttger’s are the latter. The kitchen is their orchestra hall, the food is their musicians, and what ends up being served on your plate is their wonderful symphony.
When the ambiance and atmosphere of such a historic, truly wonderful venue is combined with cuisine as magnificent as I just described?
You get to enjoy the fine dining that can only be experienced at Ruby’s Dining Room.
He finally got in a to go box and it didn’t have the meat that came with the salad. And they still charged us full price!!
