Reviews
The upholstered seats were shot and needed to be replaced (a while ago). Most of the available tables needed a good cleaning. Glass doors needed cleaning because of hand and fingerprints. This gave the restaurant a bit of a ‘run down’ appearance. Saw two other guests cleaning off the table before being seated.
Staff were responsive & friendly. Salsa bar was ok, but not spotless.
From our view of the food preparation area, appeared everything was in good order. Cost of our meals included two additional ‘sides.’
Restrooms were in good order and well supplied.
Our visit was just a snapshot at one particular moment. Condition could be due to short staff or after a particularly busy ‘run.’ However, hope our next visit sees the restaurant interior in better condition.
The cabbage wasn’t as crispy in my lobster taco, and the lobster was dry and disappointing; the shrimp taco was so so, and the street corn was discolored. My wife’s Original Fish Taco was mushy instead of the normal crispy and fresh corn taco. Normally I can kill a plate, but couldn’t finish it due to how sad it was.
The kitchen staff seemed to not have things organized either; two of them were going back and forth about giving out the wrong item, while the front girl rolled her eyes at them and shook her head like it’s a normal occurrence.
Even the drinks were not well tended to: the normal iced tea was watered down, almost like water was added to already brewed tea or a cycle was ran with little to no tea. The mango tea was fine, which is what I ended up going with.
Something just isn’t right at this place right now. Maybe this was just a bad day, but with the food seemingly being stored past when it should, I doubt it.
I’d say avoid this location for now, and hopefully management will invest some energy back into it to be how Rubios is supposed to be – fresh, vibrant, and flavorful food.
All that said, I do have to compliment the salsa bar, because it was one thing that looked great. It was well stocked, the small containers were full, and there were available napkins.
You can make a mistake, but for god’s sake show some respect to your customer and have the common sense to throw this out and fire up a new batch that’s not literally the likeness of volcanic rock.
The ONLY reason for the 2-star is that the fish taco was good. Otherwise it’s a flat 1-star.
Salsa is usually pretty good. On very few occasions you can tell it’s gone acidic because it’s old. Chips also have been stale time to time. Love their Teas and fesca drinks.
Recommend using their app for discounts.
Sadly they’re losing locations.
I recommend their salmon or lobster burritos.
The cashier welcomed us and waited as we made up our minds on the menu. We were first timers and had several menu questions, the cashier was very patient and assured us that she was ready when we were.
After paying for our meal, we took a number and found a table. They have a salsa bar, so we got our salsa and sat down. Our food was on the table in about 10 minutes.
I had the Burrito Especial with Impossible meat… yummy, yum, yum was it good. I had to do a double-take at my Burrito to make sure it wasn’t real meat, that’s just how delicious it was. My son had the kids quesadilla, and my spouse had the Burrito Especial with chicken. My burrito came with a side salad; the salad dressing was so delicious I’m going back just to see if they will let me buy dressing for my homemade salads.
Overall, our food was tasty and everyone was very satisfied. Reasonable prices, clean restaurant, and friendly staff. We will definitely return.
Recommend!
