Well, I really don’t know where to start. I retired in March of 2023. My wife and I were looking for a place that live that didn’t have all the people, traffic, road rage and crime in general. We ended up in Alton Virginia between South Boston virginia. About a month into being here we discovered Ruben’s. We love it. My wife and I like sitting at the counter watching them fill the orders. It’s an amazing process. Everyone who works there pitches in and the place runs like a clock. Oh but wait. I never mentioned that the food is awesome. Get the cheeseburger and fries smothered in gravy. It’ll make you slap your Grandma. Lol

Loved this little breakfast & lunch spot while traveling for work. All the servers were very nice and the food was good. The atmosphere is very “old school” in a good way. Almost like a well preserved moment in time. Nice meal for your dollar and nothing was outrageously overpriced.

Wha, wha, What!!!! Ruben hit the nail on the head with the hots I ordered (1. A slaw dog with mustard. 2. Hot dog with onions and mayo). Man….the diet mountain dew fountain drink had a crisp taste that was freshing… I be back soon. I can’t wait to try other items on the menu.

Finding good breakfast can be wearisome for the traveler. Ruben’s fits the bill. Great food (especially the sausage gravy) at an affordable price with easy access and a happy waitstaff. Definitely a must when in Danville, VA.

Ruben’s is absolutely amazing. The cheeseburger and onion rings were the best that I have had in years. Sitting at the counter added a spark of nostalgia. I was welcomed when I walked in from the cook and was thanked for coming when I got ready to leave. Prices are excellent. Our waitress was a sweetheart. Once you eat here, you will definitely be back. I know that I will.

If you are looking for inexpensive good food, then this is the place. Nothing fancy, sandwiches are served wrapped in paper (no plates). Possibly the best onion rings that I’ve ever had. Sometimes they get really busy, and note that it’s “seat yourself”.

The food is cheap and good! They do have frozen patties, but its actually good. Love they’re fries! The only place ill eat hotdogs from. They do have new faces working, but the new ones are just as sweet as the original workers! Its always a good place to go cheaply.
