I had such a lovely, cozy meal a few months back. I had an incredible, not sweet cocktail that featured a small batch melon liqueur that was so special. The bartender was fantastic. When I asked about the liqueur and shared my fear that it might be reminiscent of Midori, she offered me a taste and gave me the full 411 on the liqueur. I so appreciated her knowledge and throughtfulness.
The meal itself was also exceptional. Beautiful, fresh oysters served up on clouds of fine salt and with the tastiest garnishes. And whoa, the crab toasts were next level.
This spot made me wish I lived in Philly so I could make Royal Tavern my local ✨

Walking in with our luggage and cold, everyone was looking at us like we were not from this planet. We didn’t care we were we were hungry and needed fuel. Started with the burger and fries then some little crabcakes..Royally fire. Warm us up and God is ready for our food tour in Philly. Great start.

This spot is a hidden gem. My server Gianna is absolutely spectacular. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was incredible. Give the servers all in here a raise. They all help each other and are team players. Along with the pink haired guy. He is chill. Good spot. Don’t pass it up.

This is a really great neighborhood spot for good drinks, food, and service! There were 6 of us and while they don’t take reservations, we called ahead and they had a table waiting for us when we arrived. Cocktails were creative, draft list was adequate, and we were impressed to see a long list of amari and digestifs as well. The clarified milk punch cocktail was very well balanced and delicious. We split chicken wings, seitan wings, and 3 orders of fries. Both varieties of wings were well-seasoned and crispy. And the FRIES!! They were served with a malt vinegar mayo that was so good! I had the fish sandwich which was quite a generous portion and cooked perfectly. It was served alongside an herby tartar sauce that really complemented the fish. TBH, their sauce game is really on point (the sauces with the wings were also a highlight)! The grilled cheese was perfectly toasted and had the right amount of cheese-to-bread ratio. The burgers received high marks as well from those in our group. Service was very prompt – nothing took longer than 5-10 mins and our waitress was very helpful answering any questions we had. Although we are not in the area often, we would love to come back!

Was in South Philly and remembered this place was on the restaurant week list so decided to check it out. The ambiance is really cute. Definitely giving upscale neighborhood bar vibes. The music was also good.
We ordered the beet salad and chicken wings for appetizers. For entrees I had the veggie burger and he had the fluke sandwich and we shared some fries. The beet salad was tasty as the beets were roasted well. The veggie burger was also pretty flavorful. My friend said he liked it better than his meal. Unfortunately his food was not seasoned well. Although the chicken wings were fried right they had no seasoning. The fluke was better than the chicken wings but still not seasoned enough. I ordered the vegan dessert which was like a salted carmel pie with peanuts. It was not good and I am a person who loves sweets and desserts. I left it half uneaten.
I doubt I would eat here again.

I was spending the day in South Philly with my family. My daughter suggested that we go to The Royal Tavern for lunch.
We were seated at a comfortable high top by the bar and ordered drinks. My wife and daughter had cocktails that they thoroughly enjoyed. We moved on to quality tap beers after that. I got my usual iced tea, which was good.
While looking at the menu, we noticed a lot of vegan options that my son would enjoy. Next time he is in town, we’ll go back. We all ordered the Royal Tavern Burger and fries. All the burgers were cooked perfectly and the fries were also very good. Nice friendly sevice and a great stop for food and drinks!@

Drinks and service were great!! Food was a miss, but it was probably a one-off since this place has great reviews. Was not a fan of the pickled veggies (snacks upstairs) which were just parsnips, no other types of veg. That was on us for not asking in advance what the veg would be!
Crab puffs were quite fishy making me question the freshness. We weren’t asked how we wanted our burgers cooked so I assume they would come medium well or well done. All of our burgers came pink, and mine especially was very undercooked. I cut it open and the center looked raw. Thankfully our server saw and was very apologetic. He took it off the bill which I really appreciated!
Despite the sad burger, I’d be happy give Royal Tavern another try. The atmosphere was really lovely!

This may be one of my favorite spots for good food service and drink even before moving back to city. Loved the July hot dog specials and looking forward to next years and the burger is one of best in city for sure. Loved the fries and will be back to try other items including the specials.

This spot is a gem! Was expecting your average pub vibe and was pleasantly surprised. The service was incredible — you can tell the staff cares about providing excellent service and prioritizing working as a team. The drink selection is diverse as I was delighted to drink a glass of orange wine with my meal. Creative menu items, with flavorful twists on classics for everyone. The burger and fries were so dang good. I wanted to try more on the menu. Would definitely come back here next time I’m in the area.

This little hole in the wall off of East Passyunk has all the makings of an English Pub. Big shot out to Jessie the server, she clued me into the best bologna sandwich I have eaten in my life to date. You can’t go wrong with this tavern if you want a nice drink and a good bite. For the vegetarian this is amazing place, the menu will make it feel it was designed primarily for you if that is your preference.
