If you have a need for good old fashioned home cooking this may be a good choice. The chicken noodle soup off the lunch buffet was just right to make me feel all better. The other offerings looked fresh enough and my hunch is Grandma put that banana bread out. Never mind the dated decor and plastic flowers, the food is good enough to make Happy Chef proud. Keep heading for Des Moines if you want fancy.

My husband and I went up for the buffet. We paid for the lunch buffet which includes the breakfast buffet. I was very disappointed. The breakfast part was very limited and not fresh at all. The eggs were dry and cold, the sausage gravy was almost gone and cold, the biscuits we’re cold and hard. The lunch portion only had chicken and ham for meat selection, potatoes, cold toasted bread, salad and dessert. This sounds like a lot but truthfully it just wasn’t worth the price. The quality of the food was poor. I hate giving poor reviews but I have to be honest.

My daughter and I decided to try Royal cafe and it may be the worst restaurant I’ve ever been to. The fries were cold and completely soggy, tasting of freezer burn. The spaghetti my daughter got was filled with water and had barely any sauce. Stay far away from this place, we need Happy chef back.

Locally owned, which I like and the staff was very friendly. We stopped while traveling and so glad we did. We’ll definitely be coming back when on the road. The food was good, down home neighborhood restaurant feel, and prices were very reasonable. I highly recommend.

My hot beef plate was excellent. The side salad was the perfect size. My husband had a breakfast plate and said it was also very good.

I typically go for their Sunday morning brunch. A all you can eat of both breakfast and lunch food. Overall the quality of the food is pretty good and a convenient restaurant for those looking for a bit of anything. I have never made a reservation and the wait is typically minimal, if at all. Not a bad place for a smaller town or a bite to eat off of the highway.

The lunch buffet leaves a bit to be desired, and had only a few options. The salad bar was pretty decent and all the ingredients were quite fresh. The staff were friendly and very attentive which made the experience a bit nicer than most. Maybe try the dinner menu?

Stopped here for lunch when it was 36 degrees outside. The restaurant was so cold that we left without ordering, must have been at 50-55 degrees. Server acknowledged it was cold and did not offer to do anything about it. We saw folks going in wearing insulated coveralls. Evidently they’ve eaten here before. We won’t stop again.

And service was terrible the Waitress didn’t know what was in the buffet, menu prices, and she didn’t ask us how our food was until we were pretty much done eating. They tried to charge 1.99 for water that tasted like chlorine.
It took 45 minutes for food to come out.

Worst dining experience to date! After waiting 15 minutes to order we left. Very poorly ran. When going to pay for our drinks there were two people in front of us in line who did not have their tickets to pay, which put an even longer wait to leave. Seriously do not know how this has been open for business this long. Needs an complete overall. Would not reccomend ever dining here! Would of gave it 0 stars if it would of let me.
