Rouge Restaurant offers a unique dining experience in a French style cuisine where customers come to enjoy a selection of dishes in a spacious restaurant full of character and in a relaxing atmosphere.
There is a large selection of good French wines available to choose from a very reasonable price and our staff offers a prompt and informative service.
Buzzy, rustic-style French dining room with a spacious stone interior, and a large wine list.

Lovely authentic French restaurant. Limited menu offering fish of the day, duck, striploin steak or fillet of beef. If cooked rare, it is very bloody. If well done, it can be cinderised. Medium is a good option. Steak tasty, if a little chewy. Other dishes were nice. The starters in particular were particularly delicious, as were the desserts. Piano was playing in the background over a lot of chatter. Very attentive service from an international staff. Our lovely waitress was from Brittany. Great night overall. Popular and busy. It is important to book. Ideal for that special occasion. Merci à tour!

Super venue with exceptional staff and excellent food and wine. We cannot praise Fabienne & Laurent and their staff enough, five stars does not seem enough for the wonderful night they gave us. We were looking for an intimate venue to celebrate our wedding and we really could not have found anywhere nicer. From our initial meeting with Fabienne to the actual night it was so fantastic and it was everything and more that we could have wished for. Big thanks to Ariadna who looked after everything on the night and made sure it all ran so smoothly with the rest of her great team Louane, Manon, and Nolwenn to name but a few. The restaurant itself is so full of character and has a lovely ambience, Laurent ensured I had plenty of fairy lights on the night plus we had Jerry providing the entertainment who is one of their resident musicians, he was great and kept the music and sing song flowing. The food was exceptional and topped with the great selection of wines, cocktails and beers we had a night we will remember for a long time.
Thanks again to the amazing team at Rouge.
Looking forward to seeing you all soon again.
Sharon & William.

A taste of France in the heart of Galway They use Irish beef – incredible steak! I went for the blue cheese sauce and it was so rich and creamy. The portion of chips is HUGE! Also the amuse bouche had a range of tasty treats like battered courgette pieces and potato croquettes

Lovely restaurant and great food. The French staff speak excellent English. The portion sizes are really good and gentle live music was a plus. A limited but well priced menu with enough choice for both vegetarian and non vegetarian diners. Definitely worth visiting.

This would be a 5 star review as the food and over all experience was very very good, however it was tainted by one waitress who towards the end of our booking was quite rude. The food was absolutely amazing, I cannot recommend it enough in that area. It was a busy evening, and the place seemed a little understaffed as waitstaff were very rushed. We were waiting for our mains for over 30 minutes, but we just put that to it being busy and weren’t too bothered by it. Our food ended up coming about 20-25 minutes before our “end of booking” time, however we thought we woukd he given a small bit of leeway with it as our food came so late. After our mains plates were cleared we were then served dessert menus and they seemed to have no issue with us ordering one. When dessert came another waitress came shortly after, threw the bill at us and very rudely told us she could give us only 10 minutes more as there were people waiting for the table. She then stormed off before we had a chance to answer anything. We sat there then trying to finish our desert when about 5 minutes later she came back over saying that the next guests had been waiting for a while and she absolutely couldn’t give us any time longer and told us we had to leave. We then said yes, and that we were happy to pay whenever, and she replied very shortly that we had to go up to the till to pay, which we hadnt originally been made aware of.
Over all it was a lovely evening with very little to complain about, however the service could be improved as there seemed to be a bad lack of communication between staff members as to what tables had and needed what. The staff over all were all lovely but this one waitress did put a taint on the evening. You can’t have our mains come 25 minutes before you need the table back and then get annoyed when we’re still eating. We had been making plans to come back next month but I’m not sure we will now.

After more than 10 years in Galway, Rouge remains my go-to for an exceptional meal and a true taste of France in Ireland.
The starters are wonderfully original—four different tasting bites perfect for sharing with friends. I typically order the fillet with gratin dauphinois, and it’s always a delight. The wine selection consistently impresses, and I usually go with the owner’s recommendations. They really know their wines.
For dessert, the chocolate dome is an absolute must-try!
It’s also the perfect spot for a romantic evening in a wonderful atmosphere. The staff are attentive, friendly, and genuinely joyful. I can even speak French with some of them, which is a lovely touch!
The price point is honestly very reasonable for Galway, especially considering it includes a full three-course meal of exceptional quality.

We visited your restaurant on Sunday evening. We were a bit wary of the small menu. But then we were very pleased. Small does not mean bad. On the contrary, the dishes are well prepared and balanced. The quiet cozy atmosphere is very suitable for a family dinner. Pleasant background music. But the waiters bring a special charm. Good work and attentiveness. But besides that, they are very creative. They also dance and sing. Simply delightful. Thank you for the evening and a special compliment. We hope to be able to come in the future.

That was my first experience of French cuisine. First of all, the restaurant was very nicely designed, and the staff were really friendly. This time, there wasn’t a typical menu; they only had a Christmas menu, which included a starter, selected main dishes, and a selected dessert. I really didn’t like the starter. The main dish was nice — I ordered fillet beef — but there was nothing served with it, and the portion size was not enough at all. Considering that it was food from another cuisine, the price was acceptable. But in general that was expensive. The dessert was nice.

Celebrated a birthday at Rouge recently. Steak was great and the lemon and meringue tart for dessert was delicious.

French attitude without the culinary skills to match! Save your money and go elsewhere. Filet was a terrible cut and served rare, despite being ordered medium. Server arrived 30 minutes after the food was served and had plenty of attitude to dish up when I quite politely shared my dissatisfaction.
Hostess was equally non responsive. When asked if everything was great, I replied, actually no. Her response? Okay!
You’ve been warned!!
