A Step Back in Time — In the Best Way Possible
Rosewood is an absolute treasure tucked into the heart of Lunenburg, Virginia, and every visit feels like a special occasion. Housed in a beautifully restored 1799 colonial residence, the atmosphere alone is worth the trip — warm, inviting, and effortlessly charming in a way that only a truly historic space can be.
Paul and Kathy Davies have created something truly special here. Their English roots shine through in every detail, from the lovingly prepared afternoon tea (book your reservation — don’t miss it!) to the authentic British specialties on the menu. But Rosewood doesn’t stop there. The American classics, like the hearty sausage gravy and biscuits, are just as satisfying and made with obvious care.
Whether you’re popping in for a relaxed breakfast, a satisfying lunch, or a craft beer in the pub, the experience feels personal and genuine — never rushed, never pretentious. This is real hospitality.
If you’re passing through Lunenburg or planning a visit, make Rosewood your destination. You’ll leave full, happy, and already planning your return.
For breakfast, we had the breakfast sandwich on a bagel and the pancakes. The pancakes are the best I’ve ever had second only to my Nana’s! The bacon was so crispy and cooked perfectly!
For lunch, I had the grilled bacon blackberry, which can not be missed!!!
I absolutely plan on returning! Worth the drive out to beautiful country for a day of tea and delicious food!
The owners are lovely as well!!
Everything, and I mean everything, is done in house with the food being prepared by the wife. Every single thing we tried was top notch; the bbq pinwheel and cucumber sandwiches were my personal favorites. The tea was brewed very well and presented in a traditional manner that makes you feel like a kid at a tea party again. It is well worth driving multiple hours for, I assure you that you will leave with a smile on your face and a warm belly. I cannot wait to return to try the bar that they are finishing construction on, I am confident the quality of their tea room will translate to an excellent watering hole.
Do yourself a favor and gather some friends and family for tea day, you will wish you had done it sooner.
This morning was a bit cooler so my wife and I decided to take a motorcycle ride and grab some breakfast while we were out. Rosewoods was really clean and the owners were super friendly and informative about the history of the house. I am excited to see what is to come and will definitely be visiting for dinner along with a drink in the tavern.
