Rory’s Place
Our menus are inspired by the fresh, seasonal produce, seafood and livestock from Ojai, Santa Barbara, and the surrounding areas.

The ambiance at Rory’s Place really makes it a standout experience! The service was very nice – our waiter was lovely, but left us for some longer stretches of time so we were there a bit longer than we wanted to be. The food was extremely fresh and well cooked, particularly the Japanese sweet potato – get it if you go! I also got the Hello Satan cocktail which was a mezcal passionfruit situation. Delicious and well balanced, and the rest of their cocktail menu looked equally as thoughtful. My main dish of King Salmon didn’t blow me away given the price, but my partner really enjoyed his hangar steak.

Waited over an hour and a half for a table (we didn’t book a reservation) and it was worth every second. The food is phenomenal and the servers are wonderful! We got the market salad, hearth bread, chicken liver pate, hanger steak, and banana cream pie. All were delicious but our favourite was the bread!

This place is bomb. I did not expect to be writing a review that starts with bread, but OMG their sourdough bread for the cheese and pâté is amazingly fluffy. I could be smothered in this bread and I’d die happy. The cheese plate was one of the best I’ve ever had. I think cheese plates are fine on average but this was next level – every cheese had fresh and nuanced flavor. The carrot dish had such a vast variety of flavors that somehow all worked together (and the burrata in it is freaking lovely). The daily crudo was hamachi and is the only dish that fell flat – but the fennel and the sauce in it were surprisingly delicious. I spent the same amount of money here on dinner that I did at The Dutchess for brunch and this blew The Dutchess out of the water. Make a reservation – we reserved a table for a Saturday at 5:45pm and the place was packed. Well deserved, Rory’s. Keep the flavors coming.

Lovely, delicious, local and well executed. What more can you say about Rory’s Place in Ojai? Located in central downtown Ojai next to the fabulous restored theater, Rory’s Place is incredibly popular, reservations encouraged. There is a noisy, convivial indoor eating area and a lovely patio. The cocktail list is fun, and the Hello Satan cocktail was so good, I had to have two.
We had just flown in from the East Coast to visit family and felt the need for a healthy dinner, and shared a series of vegetarian plates. So. Good. Highly recommend. The kitchen is creative and our waiter was a pro. Go!

Lovely, vibrant spot with delicious food. Service is solid although we never did get a bowl for shells. Some really delicious bites like the tomato salad and grilled oysters. Seafood tower was pretty standard. I was hoping for more from the cocktail sauce or mignonette but the seafood itself was well done. I’m withholding the 5th star because they specifically say Channel Islands seafood on the seafood tower but I don’t think any of it was local. Possibly the bluefin crudo, but that seems unlikely.

Food was good! Sides were our favorite, all of them were really good. Including the oysters! The steak was underwhelming. I didn’t like that all of our sides came out well before the steak so by the time it came out, we had to eat it alone. It was overcooked and a tad tough and under seasoned. Service was really good; was worried about that because of previous reviews but wasn’t a problem. Overall, I enjoyed the meal, but wouldn’t make it necessary to come back next time.

The host/manager who received us had a very poor attitude. He didn’t greet us or thank us for visiting, which made us feel unwelcome from the moment we arrived.
The waitress was kind and attentive, and the food was average. However, the uncomfortable vibe from the manager really affected the overall experience.
Because of that, I wouldn’t return. It’s a shame, because a simple gesture of courtesy can make a big difference.

Yeah, like others say, what is with the service here?! It’s definitely not a very welcoming place. My server didn’t greet me or note anything special about the menu – it felt like pulling teeth trying to get her to provide recommendations or ideas on what to order. Like others have also mentioned, massive gaps between courses. The Forest Bathing Martini was bland and just tasted like an old gin martini. The pasta was ok, and the cabbage was excellent. Cool little vibe inside, but overall, not worth the 1.5 hour wait for subpar service at best and decent food.

Walking in at 5:30pm with a toddler… I cringed inside but hoped for the best.
Luckily for me; as I was starving & not the one with children… we were immediately sat on the patio.
As I ordered everything that caught my eye. I was incredibly impressed by it all.
Nothing was phoned in. Everything is beautifully executed. By the end I was delightfully full.
Most time veggie dishes are an afterthought. Yet; at Rory’s they might still the show!!

We loved our experience at Rory’s Place! The service was fabulous (shout out to Anice!) and the food was fresh and well balanced. We tried all of the oysters, the beautifully fresh hamachi, and the hanger steak, and they were spot-on. Loved the seasonal cocktails including the Hello Satan and the Lawn Chair. We will come back, and will recommend to friends. Amazing vibe with the lighting, decor, and music.
