I LOVE these types of places and this was a destination lunch for us. This is definitely a local spot as I doubt many folks would travel here just to eat. I got the local vibe when we walked in but, again, my kind of place. There were four of us for lunch on a thurs. Everything was tasty but some of our items where not hot. Seems they “died on the line” waiting to be served. However, if you’re looking for a hearty meal at a decent price, you might want to check them out. I could see myself regularly parked at a table or the “bar” if I lived in Simonton.

I have been there a few times for Breakfast , it was good and no complaints , I went for a late lunch 11/08/2025 , arrived at 2:40 PM , I saw they closed at 3. I tried to place my order and was told ” Everything was already was put up ” . This is wrong , if you close at 3 , you should take orders before 3. I guess what they mean is , we lock and are gone at 2:59.

I was too anxious to try the chicken fried steak and ate some before I took a picture. I split it with my husband this was our first time. It was great! Better than homemade – which is hard to beat!! The fried okra and broccoli cheese casserole were hot and fresh too.
Service with one waitress was fast we didn’t wait too long even though it was busy. We’re definitely going back.

Hands down the best chicken fried steak I’ve ever had. This is a very nice and clean little restaurant inside of a local country store by Wallis, TX. I highly recommend it 🙂

Service was friendly and helpful. They use soybean oil so I had limited options. I ended up ordering a BBQ baked potato. The meat seemed to have been previously frozen and the sauce tasted weird. The potato itself wasn’t cooked thoroughly. They were happy to add chicken instead of beef to my son’s nachos and my toddler enjoyed the Mac and cheese, fries, and chocolate chip cookies. Husband enjoyed his hamburger steak with mashed potatoes and okra. My water was never refilled. I wouldn’t return but it wasn’t the worst.

I love Roper’s. They’re a community staple from their friendly staff to their great breakfasts, lunch and dinners. I love their fried chicken, chicken fried steaks, and smothered pork chops. And I can grab my pantry staples here as well. This is what a local store should be. Perfect.

This place took me back in time. I reminded me of the little country store where I grew up 70 some years ago. In my country store there was a potbellied stove and the men in the little town gathered around it on a Sunday morning visiting. This small town place had that same feeling. My store did not cook food but the old- timey shelves of supplies felt similar. My breakfast of eggs and bacon was a good start to my day.

First time here and I know I’ll be back! The biscuits are amazing. I had them covered with sausage gravy. Yum! Calories, who cares! The coffee was strong and good, not watery like some places. The service was relaxed which gave my dining partner and me time to chat. My only reason for not giving five stars is that the bathroom needed some attention. All in all it was a really good way to start a day.
