Reviews
We skipped dessert because the portions were massive — we prefer smaller, more refined options. Our waitress was friendly and clearly doing her best, but she was juggling multiple tables and we had to wait quite a while at times.
The restaurant’s interior design is tasteful and classical, which we appreciated. However, overall, the experience didn’t quite meet our expectations, and we don’t think we’ll be returning the next time we’re in the area.
We were greeted at the door and it was all up hill after that. Our waiter, Zed, was polite and very accommodating. The food was delicious. We were wondering why it was taking awhile for a check when around the corner came a glorious surprise anniversary desert – compliments of the house. Very nice touch.
The ambience was elegant, cozy and festive. We look forward to returning to Roots in the near future.
2) Love the cozy decor. (Positive)
3) I find the hosting staff (a woman) and a man a bit curt, rude & unaccommodating.
4) This was my 3rd time at this establishment, the first time we sat in the car in a cozy booth. Nice evening. (Positive experience, although overpriced & huge (over the top/way too much) portions.
5) We went to Roots on Thursday, 1/14 to sit in the bar and maybe some appetizers. We were told no, all tables were reserved. Yet several were empty as well as in the restaurant. They were not willing to accommodate us. And when they asked our name they saw I had made a reservation for tonight, 1/18. Yet they still shoved us off. I found that poor restaurant etiquette. There’s a way of doing these things in a polite & respectful manner. You demonstrate accommodation and say, listen these tables are booked, I have a reservation coming in at 7:00pm but if you want you can have the table until then, but then I will need the table. If you are ok with that I would be happy to seat you.” There’s a way to talk to and deal with people.
6) Tonight was my senior parent’s birthday. When I called to make the reservation last Tuesday, 1/12, I asked for a warm cozy table, away from the door, one with the banquet. I told the man my parent is a fragile, senior. I asked if we could be seated somewhere quiet. When we arrived we were about 25 minutes late. My family did call and say we were late, due to my senior parent’s difficulties. When we arrived we were left standing at the hostess desk with a young man & a woman at the computer hesitating and clearly trying to figure out where to put us. My poor senior parent could hardly stand and it took me & my family to hold her up. They finally said they were seating us & brought us to the back area after first saying they were going to seat us by the door. I said, “oh no” I specifically said away from the door when I made the reservation.” Then I asked why can’t we sit there (I pointed to the 2 tables with cozy banquets/booths) and the young man said, “oh we have reservations on those tables.” What?! What the heck did I have?! Um, I think it’s called a reservation! Check your computer-(Our name) for 4 at 6:00pm. Senior birthday dinner.
And to add another log to this flaming catastrophe, no one tried to help us. I will say the young man was nice, attempted to be helpful, but the senior gentleman, clearly a manager, just stood there with his hands folded, said take your time but made a better statue than anything else. I will say he did then take my parent’s walker to the front of the restaurant near the hostess station to house it. That was a kind gesture. But aside from that and the outrageously large ice cream sundae at the end of the meal (the birthday treat) no one came to wish my parent a happy birthday. My family member said the beef Wellington was very salty. (I tasted it, it was). My parent said the lobster tail was overcooked (chewy) as a result, it was! I tried it. Honestly, it was a disappointing experience.
I will close by saying you have a beautiful establishment but your management team, your food, your service (lots of people), but not necessarily efficient or prompt, and your prices leave a lot to be desired.
