Terrible service. We visited after getting a recommendation and were super disappointed. This is not a place to go if you like good service. We ordered the Big Kahuna pizza. It was just ok. It had very little toppings. Not worth the price at all. The girl working the bar and register must not like her job. There were several empty tables on a Friday night. The tables had trash and crumbs all over them. The wait for the food was not bad. The live music was not great. Definitely wouldn’t recommend.

We absolutely love coming to Roots and have been regular customers for quite some time. The food is always amazing, the drinks are great, and the service has consistently been friendly and welcoming. It’s one of those places we enjoy bringing our family, and we’ve made a lot of great memories there over the years. This past Friday evening we stopped in again with our kids, expecting the same comfortable, family-friendly atmosphere we’re used to. However, it looked like there may have been a new bartender working, and unfortunately what she was wearing felt extremely inappropriate for what we’ve always known to be a family establishment. Her outfit was very revealing, to the point that everything was practically hanging out, which made it uncomfortable while sitting there with our children. It really caught us off guard and took away from the otherwise great experience we normally have there. We truly enjoy Roots and want to continue supporting it, which is why we felt it was worth mentioning. We hope management will take this into consideration moving forward, because Roots has always been a place we recommend to others and we’d love to keep seeing it maintain the welcoming, family-friendly vibe that has always made it such a great spot.

This pizza place is truly a hidden gem with such a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere. It was our first time here but From the moment you walk in, you can feel the laid-back vibe that makes it easy to unwind, enjoy great food, and just be present with the people you’re with. The environment is warm and inviting, making it perfect whether you’re stopping in for a casual night out or staying awhile to enjoy the experience.
The service was excellent from start to finish. Even though it was busy and some guests were a little demanding, the staff handled everything with professionalism and patience. The little bartender especially stood out she definitely seemed focused lol but was so sweet and we had such a great conversation . Everyone there is absolutely amazing at what they do. They stayed efficient, attentive, and friendly the entire time. It’s not easy to get the job done and keep everyone happy, but they did it with confidence and grace.
You can tell there’s a strong team behind this place that truly cares about creating a positive experience for every guest. The combination of great service, a relaxed environment, and delicious pizza makes this spot one I’ll definitely keep coming back to. Highly recommend for anyone looking for good food, good vibes, and genuinely hardworking staff who go above and beyond.

The pizzas were surprisingly very good — great flavor, a nice crust, and overall much better than expected.

During early happy hour on Friday, 1/9/26, the bartender who attended us delivered exceptional service. He was genuinely helpful, impressively attentive without ever being intrusive, and his food recommendations were absolutely on point. Beyond the service, we enjoyed great conversations about music and his personal history living in the surrounding areas, which added a warm, authentic layer to the experience. He is truly the kind of presence that makes guests want to return again and again. And a tip for fellow diners: don’t miss the rosemary potatoes outstanding.

If you are looking for a solid place for lunch with a creative menu and great pizza— Roots will do the job! I’ve eaten there dozens of times and never had a single complaint. While eating, you can imagine what it was like as a saloon in the 1880s… solid food, respectful, waitstaff, in a tavern atmosphere. I take my friends there.

The food was good. The salad with grilled chicken had plenty of meat. The beer selection is pretty good. The pizza with “ground beef” looked more like small blocks of meat that maybe also goes on a gyro. It was ok. Not that impressed overall.

Roots is in the downtown square of Georgetown in a building that is over 100 years old. Parking is challenging around the square, but it is worth finding a spot. The restaurant is a large open space with a second level balcony with additional tables and seating. We stopped by on a Thursday afternoon and there was only one table occupied, so plenty of open seating. There is a small stage by the front door, and I can tell that this place can get crowded, especially when they have live music.
The menu has a great variety of choices, salads, appetizers, tacos, sandwiches, burgers, and pizza. I got the El Cubano sandwich, and my wife got the California Tacos with slow braised pork and a side salad. Wes, the restaurant manager, was friendly and talked with us about the food and history of the building and restaurant. We enjoyed talking with him and he is also clearly great in the kitchen because both meals were excellent! The Cuban sandwich had slow braised pulled pork and was topped with Swiss cheese, pickles, horseradish aioli, and Dijon on a Cuban roll. The pork was tender and juicy, and the Cuban roll was pressed, so the outside was slightly crunchy, perfect to hold in all the juiciness of the sandwich. I would definitely get this sandwich again. My wife loved her tacos. The salsa gave the right level of spices to take this taco over the top. She gave me a bite and I almost didn’t want to give it back to her! A lot of restaurants out there are making some type of taco plate, but this is one of the best tacos that we have tried. Even the side salad was excellent, and the ranch dressing was great. Wes told us that the dressing, like almost all items, are made in house. We can’t wait to come back and try the pizza, and also bring our entire family.
If that is not enough to convince you to try Roots, let’s talk about price. The El Cubano sandwich was $12.00 and the California Taco plate was $10.50. This place is excellent value for your money, especially compared to other places in the Georgetown area. My wife and I spent more money on two subs at a sandwich shop than we spent here. I really give credit to Roots for working to keep prices reasonable while providing fresh and delicious food! Go to Georgetown square, find a parking spot, and go to Roots. Based on our experience, you will not be disappointed. Highly recommended.
