Great experience overall.
I started with the drunken deviled eggs, and they set the tone right away. Bright, balanced, and surprisingly refined, they take a familiar dish and make it feel new again. Each bite was punchy and well-seasoned, the kind of appetizer that makes you want to order a second round just to keep the moment going.
For the main course, I had the eggs Benedict, and it delivered across the board. The ingredients tasted incredibly fresh, the flavors were vibrant, and the whole dish was assembled with a level of care that shows in every bite. Nothing felt heavy or overdone — just clean, well-executed cooking with real attention to detail.
Root & Bone nails that blend of comfort and craft. If you’re in Indy and want a brunch spot that feels special without being pretentious, this one absolutely deserves a spot on your list.
Let’s start with the best part: the service. Our server was absolutely fantastic, and I was 100% satisfied with the attentive and friendly care we received throughout the meal. It makes a huge difference.
The main courses also delivered. If you love fried chicken, I would highly recommend the RB Famous Fried Chicken—it’s clear why it’s a signature dish. Similarly, the BBQ Spare Ribs were delicious and well-executed. The Cheddar Cornbread was a unique take on a classic, and while it was different, it was definitely good.
However, not everything hit the mark. I would not recommend the Mac and Cheese. It wasn’t creamy, the cheese had a hard texture, and the pasta itself was undercooked. The Banana Crème Brûlée for dessert was also a letdown, as it barely had any banana flavor.
A couple of other things soured the experience. The bottle of Justin Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles we ordered felt incredibly overpriced, seeming to be almost triple the retail cost. Also, we took the crème brûlée to go, and it was packed in a simple cardboard box. By the time we got home, it was a mess and looked completely unappetizing. A delicate dessert like that needs a more suitable container.
Overall, I would return for the fantastic service, the fried chicken, and the ribs. However, I’ll be skipping the mac and cheese and will be more cautious about the wine list next time.
The service was excellent and the atmosphere was enjoyable, especially for a Sunday evening. Unfortunately, the food did not match the quality of the service. My meal, the Indiana Schnitzel, was very bland and lacked seasoning and flavor. It felt like very little effort went into the preparation. My fiancé ordered the salmon, which was decent but also lacking flavor.
The guests sitting next to us overheard our conversation and shared that they had been there before and also found the food disappointing. They mentioned their last two visits were unsatisfactory, and that this may be their final time dining there.
Our bill came to $107, and honestly, we felt we could have had a similar.. or better food experience at a basic chain restaurant, aside from the great service and pleasant atmosphere. Perhaps we caught the kitchen on an off night or things were rushed.
At this time, this isn’t a restaurant I would recommend for a foodie or someone who appreciates bold flavors, as we do. Thanks for reading — I hope this helps.
