Great Atmosphere. No wait time during my visit. Staff was friendly and helpful. Server was engaging and polite. Food was top tier. The ribs fell off the bone. Max and cheese was really cheesy and creamy. The deviled eggs were extremely tasty. The biscuits and gravy was great with gravy during dinner and even better with jelly the following morning.
Great experience overall.

Amazing food, great service, and a nice southern atmosphere! Everything I had was on point. The corn bread was thick and flavorful and I loved the sauce that came with it. The deviled eggs were delicious, although the color did throw me off at first. And the short rib meatloaf was cooked perfectly. I would 100% recommend to anyone that’s in the area.

Root & Bone offers exactly the kind of elevated comfort-food experience you hope to find but rarely do. The atmosphere is warm and stylish — modern farmhouse without trying too hard, clean lines, and a space that feels intentionally crafted for people who like to linger over good food.

I started with the drunken deviled eggs, and they set the tone right away. Bright, balanced, and surprisingly refined, they take a familiar dish and make it feel new again. Each bite was punchy and well-seasoned, the kind of appetizer that makes you want to order a second round just to keep the moment going.

For the main course, I had the eggs Benedict, and it delivered across the board. The ingredients tasted incredibly fresh, the flavors were vibrant, and the whole dish was assembled with a level of care that shows in every bite. Nothing felt heavy or overdone — just clean, well-executed cooking with real attention to detail.

Root & Bone nails that blend of comfort and craft. If you’re in Indy and want a brunch spot that feels special without being pretentious, this one absolutely deserves a spot on your list.

My visit to Root & Bone in Indianapolis was a mixed bag, with some truly excellent highlights alongside a few significant misses.
Let’s start with the best part: the service. Our server was absolutely fantastic, and I was 100% satisfied with the attentive and friendly care we received throughout the meal. It makes a huge difference.
The main courses also delivered. If you love fried chicken, I would highly recommend the RB Famous Fried Chicken—it’s clear why it’s a signature dish. Similarly, the BBQ Spare Ribs were delicious and well-executed. The Cheddar Cornbread was a unique take on a classic, and while it was different, it was definitely good.
However, not everything hit the mark. I would not recommend the Mac and Cheese. It wasn’t creamy, the cheese had a hard texture, and the pasta itself was undercooked. The Banana Crème Brûlée for dessert was also a letdown, as it barely had any banana flavor.
A couple of other things soured the experience. The bottle of Justin Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles we ordered felt incredibly overpriced, seeming to be almost triple the retail cost. Also, we took the crème brûlée to go, and it was packed in a simple cardboard box. By the time we got home, it was a mess and looked completely unappetizing. A delicate dessert like that needs a more suitable container.
Overall, I would return for the fantastic service, the fried chicken, and the ribs. However, I’ll be skipping the mac and cheese and will be more cautious about the wine list next time.

Good atmosphere and a waiter, Christian, who has his role down pat. He was great fun. It was a busy and lively evening. The food had a good presentation. The taste was solid. Two of us had the half bird fried chicken (one w/waffles & the other with a side of biscuits). The chicken was well-seasoned and crispy but salty. The sweet tea had a bitter aftertaste unbecoming of its southern heritage. It could also use a bit more sugar. The biscuits were good and held up well to the au jus dipping sauce. The fried tomatoes were tasty. Our party member who ordered the shrimp and grits found this dish ok.

Our server, Jessica was excellent. Helped us make some great selections. Biscuits were heavenly. Must get. The red shrimp with grits was delicious. Also, the schnitzel with brown butter spaetzel was perfectly balanced and just the perfect bite. Food with bursts of unique flavor. Key lime pie dessert was spot on. Don’t sleep on this place. Worth trying.

The service was great. It wasn’t too busy and we were seated in arrival. The food and drinks were delicious. Our waitress was great. Not a lot of parking. Only two restrooms. Otherwise was a cute spot with great food.

While visiting, I had to make a stop at Root & Bone. It lived up to the hype. The food was delicious. Grits with shrimp. Salmon. Fried Chicken and Waffles. The lemon drop was just ok.

We were looking for a place to eat after Valentine’s Day, and since reservations were available at Root & Bone, we decided to give it a try. We’re new to Indy and are still looking for our regular go to spots.

The service was excellent and the atmosphere was enjoyable, especially for a Sunday evening. Unfortunately, the food did not match the quality of the service. My meal, the Indiana Schnitzel, was very bland and lacked seasoning and flavor. It felt like very little effort went into the preparation. My fiancé ordered the salmon, which was decent but also lacking flavor.
The guests sitting next to us overheard our conversation and shared that they had been there before and also found the food disappointing. They mentioned their last two visits were unsatisfactory, and that this may be their final time dining there.

Our bill came to $107, and honestly, we felt we could have had a similar.. or better food experience at a basic chain restaurant, aside from the great service and pleasant atmosphere. Perhaps we caught the kitchen on an off night or things were rushed.

At this time, this isn’t a restaurant I would recommend for a foodie or someone who appreciates bold flavors, as we do. Thanks for reading — I hope this helps.

The food here was absolutely fantastic — every bite was packed with flavor. The place has a great vibe, and the service was just as good as the food. Definitely worth the stop if you’re in Indianapolis! I’ll be coming back for sure.
