I asked my grandson what he wanted for dinner—American, Italian, Chinese, fast food, or Mexican. Without hesitation, he said Italian. I let him choose two places, but parking was a challenge at both. So I told him, “Let me take you somewhere you can’t go wrong.”
I took him to a place I’ve loved for years—a spot known for Strombolis as long as your forearm, stuffed with whatever you like, and pizzas that are homemade, fresh, and simply delicious. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.
He chose Roma Italiano Restaurant, and I couldn’t have agreed more. What I love most is how warm and cordial they are—you’re treated like family. At the Sandston location, the father, one of the sons, and two daughters are usually working together. I believe the other son works at the Mechanicsville location. I only wish they had one in Short Pump—but I will happily drive to Sandston or Mechanicsville anytime for Roma.
I ordered a Stromboli with spinach, mushrooms, onions, mozzarella, and their marinara sauce. My grandson went with a large meat lovers pizza, loaded with pepperoni, sausage, and lamb. Every bite was satisfying, flavorful, and worth the trip.
Roma Italiano never disappoints.

I did a custom pizza bacon,garlic,basil with onion. The crust tasted like something I could have made at home but, the pizza was good over all.. This place wins for the great staff that check on you and makes sure you are well taken care of every time they walk by. Overall it’s a good place to grab a pie with the kids…. Just not the Italian style pizza I was looking for..

The seafood was the prominent taste, while the sauce, although very good, was a bit delicate. My humble opinion only.

Business trip or not, Roma Ristorante made me feel like I took a quick detour to Italy. The calamari came out just the way I asked—crispy enough to make Nonna proud, with sauces that kept me dipping. The chicken piccata? Bellissimo. Hot, flavorful, and plated like they knew I was going to brag about it later. And because no Italian meal is complete without something sweet, I left with a cannoli to go—a little box of happiness I wasn’t about to share.
The service was spot-on: friendly, attentive, and quick without rushing the meal. If you’re in Sandston and craving real Italian comfort food, this is the spot. Roma makes you want to say, “When in Virginia, do as the Italians do.”

I thought this was an authentic pizza place and I was WRONG!! The wings are BASIC and are basically Tyson frozen wings from bag and put in an air fryer, while they are good but basic Walmart bag type of food. The pizza is basic and not worth it at all. ♂️

Roma is a great place to eat. I have personally never dined in at this location, but, I have ordered to go and delivery from this location numerous times.
This locations food is always spot on and good! The order usually comes in correct but sometimes they do forget the bread when ordering for delivery. I do recommend ordering from this location.

We recently ordered a take out meal for five from Roma. Every meal was made to perfection and, oh so delicious! The staff was super friendly and made sure we were satisfied with every detail. The meals were even packed into a large pizza box – allowing us to carry them flat and not tip any of the entrées.
While we did not dine in, I would go back any day because the food was so good. Portions were also very generous.

It was our first time to Roma Italian restaurant in Sandston (our friend recommended the restaurant). My husband and I attended a special dinner – four courses paired with wine. First the staff made you feel so welcome and important. They all worked together to create a great experience.
On to the food: I was blown away with how GOOD the food tasted. The first course was a risotto – risottos are fine, but this was a different beast as you could taste a hint of rosemary in every tender bite of risotto. The risotto was also made and served with mushrooms and a piece of rosemary on top! Care and creativity on display and the wine was excellent. Next up were stuffed homemade ravioli with a luxurious cream sauce. The wine pairing was an explosion in my mouth. The third course was a perfectly cooked braised beef with a wine reduction sauce and whipped potatoes. The portions were both appropriate and very filling. The braised beef held it’s shape AND also was so tender. The wine dinner was in a separate room from their main dining area. They had good traffic with people eating inside the restaurant and also taking pizzas to go. I plan to come back and try their amazing smelling pizza and having another date night over Italian fare. I highly recommend this place and bonus, the pricing was very reasonable.
