Absolutely outstanding experience at ROL Hand Roll Bar! I ordered the High Roller Set, which was loaded with premium ingredients like uni, wagyu, toro, lobster, and truffle – every bite was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. My mom, sister, and her boyfriend got other sets, and we all agreed the food quality was top-notch with warm rice and crispy seaweed that elevated everything.
The service was awesome – attentive, friendly, and efficient. We also loved the Harland rice beer; it was incredibly smooth and not sweet at all, which was a surprisingly great pairing with the rolls. Plenty of parking in the plaza with no time restrictions, making it stress-free. Highly recommend – we’ll be back soon!
ROL Hand Roll Bar may have limited seating, but it’s overflowing with flavor and charm. This is hands-down one of my favorite sushi spots in OC!
My absolute must-orders: the crispy rice tartar (perfection), yellowtail, toro truffle, and the refreshing dragonfruit lychee lemonade. These will be on repeat every time I visit.
Also delicious: the scallop, salmon, spicy tuna crunch, and yuzu kosho—great if you’re craving something specific, though not essentials for me.
Only miss? The Hojicha purin didn’t quite do it for me. Probably skipping that next time.
Service is solid and the vibe is just right. I’ll definitely be back for another round (or five).
· this review is only for their lunch special menu (we went on weekend before 4 PM)
· i really like the spicy tuna + salmon don which was 16$ USD as of October 2025
· their sashimi tasted fresh + paired perfectly with their signature sauce
· this lunch set also came with a small miso soup + edamame (which was also delicious)
· their kaisendon was also filling + aesthetic for IG photos (came with soup after)
tldr: highly recommend trying their lunch special menu
The service deserves a mention too. Since everything is prepared right in front of you at the bar, the rolls come out quickly and at peak freshness. The staff kept things moving smoothly without rushing the experience.
As for the ambiance, the bar-style seating sets the tone: casual, lively, and great for sharing a meal side by side. It’s not the type of spot for private conversations, but it’s perfect if you want an engaging, social dining experience while watching your food being made.
Overall, Rol Handroll Bar lives up to the hype. Between the fresh handrolls, the must-try fries, and the energetic bar setting, it’s the kind of place I’ll definitely return to.
I’ve been in a few times now, and every single visit with Daniel taking care of the table has been smooth, friendly, and way above standard. He actually listens to what you like (and don’t like), then suggests rolls and drinks that hit the mark perfectly. The timing on everything is dialed in — drinks refreshed without asking, plates cleared without hovering, and food coming out at a comfortable pace.
On top of that, he’s just genuinely kind and easy to talk to. No fake “scripted” server energy — just a relaxed, professional vibe that makes the whole experience better. If you’re going to ROL Sushi Bar, ask for Daniel. He’s a big part of why I keep coming back and recommending the place to friends.
The set menus are always a safe choice. I’ve had the 6-7 roll menu before, and it’s just enough food for you to leave comfortable. But tonight, I wanted to try their more premium options, so I a-la-carte’d everything.
My favorite roll was the Toro and Truffle Handroll. In addition to having truffle pearls, the roll is also substantially bigger. To be honest, the toro hand roll is good, but it’s not as good as like toro nigiri. Probably because the toro is all chopped up. The premium toro circumvents this issue by being bigger, so the bites are more satisfying.
I also always get the blue crab – very good, can’t go wrong there. The lobster roll was good, but I wouldn’t get it again. The unagi is like my second favorite. The warm roll is a nice change of pace, and it has a surprising crunch to it (I’m assuming from crispy garlic bits). It’s also a little sweet, which I love.
I think Rol is good value. You can get a set menu for as little as $26. And if you get premium items, the quality is quite good. You get what you pay for here.
The dragon fruit lychee lemonade was very refreshing and the color was very fun and striking! It’s good to know in advance that the lychee and lemonade itself is syrup based, though. On the positive side, their dragonfruit pulp is from the actual fruit!
