Lovely, open space with a lot of lighting which is great. I got their chai latte which was nicely balanced. They serve lavazza coffee and have a wide variety of pastries. They serve discounted day old pastries for half off that you can have warmed up. I wouldn’t recommend them though cause they weren’t flaky.

We recently visited this newly opened European bakery, bistro, and café on Sunset Hills Rd in Reston, eager to enjoy brunch. While the place has potential, our overall experience felt quite average.

The apple strudel was decent but left room for improvement. The crookie (a combination of croissant and cookie) was unremarkable, and the veggie omelet and signature sandwich were okay. A flavorful sauce could have significantly enhanced the sandwich, as it came across as a bit dry. Unfortunately, the croissant was dry and flaky, lacking the rich buttery flavor we expected, and serving it warmed would have made a notable difference. As for the “European” aspect of the menu, we struggled to find anything that truly captured that essence, although they offered various pastries. On a positive note, the coffee was satisfactory, and the latte made with Lavazza was particularly noteworthy.

The ambience was clean, yet it felt somewhat lacking; a more thoughtful selection of art, adding real plants/greenery, and fuller shelves would elevate the space.

A Hidden Gem for European Delights!
Roggenart is my go-to spot for authentic European bakery vibes right in the heart of the city. The rye breads are crusty perfection, and their strudels? Out of this world—flaky, fruity, and not too sweet. Grab a seat in the cozy bistro for a latte and people-watch; service is warm and efficient. Prices are fair for the quality. If you’re craving that old-world charm, this is it! Highly recommend.

Underwhelmed by the place. I was excited to visit and purchased a variety of croissants, salty treats, tarts and coffee.
I want to give them the benefit of the doubt since it was the grand opening, but the staff couldn’t agree on how I should order. Common sense would be to show the staff member what I want to add to my box THEN pay. Instead I was asked to pay first! I didn’t follow the instructions because I appreciate the interaction with the staff asking what is good, what they like and pick what I looked good. I ordered then paid.
For a grand opening, the managers were not friendly. They barely spoke to guests and seemed annoyed when I asked a question about what was planned for the grand opening.
The food was ok, nothing memorable, the coffee was also nothing special.
Would I go back? Maybe, if I’m in the area but I wouldn’t consider making this place my go to coffee shop unfortunately.

While the ambience of the bakery is nice, the food and coffee is mediocre.

I tried a Salted Caramel Latte and Tiramisu latte. Unfortunately, both coffees tasted quite artificial and very sweet due to the syrups. The chicken avocado melt was average at best. The chicken was under seasoned and texturally soggy. I would’ve preferred if the bread was toasted, as when I tried to pick up the open faced sandwich, the bread was so soft that everything just fell off immediately.

If you’re looking to do work and/or study here, beware that there’s no outlets near any of the tables, so make sure that your devices are charged. They do have free WiFi, but you have to ask the staff for the password as it’s not posted anywhere. The music isn’t too loud and the overall ambience is quite nice.

The savory mushroom and scallion bear claw needed salt. The French onion soup was so lacking in flavor I returned it. Also, you don’t mix cheese in the soup. The coffee and meal I had were mediocre at best. Seems like staff training is lacking considering the poorly executed menu items.

This place isn’t perfect…. But they undoubtedly have the best pastries in northern Virginia. They shit on Tatte bakery. What makes a good croissant? It must be flakey outside and soft inside. Roggenart nails it!!!

Also best breakfast sandwich in the area. Picture attacked.

We were a little hesitant to try this place after reading some mixed reviews. However, our breakfast turned out to be delicious. We split a quiche and had a couple of pastries – everything was very good. The atmosphere is also lovely: tastefully decorated, quiet background music, and comfortable chairs. It’s such a cozy breakfast spot, perfect for conversation and a relaxing dining experience.

If I had to point out a weakness, the service still seems to be finding its footing. The staff are friendly, but at times they seemed a bit unsure of what they should be doing.

That said, we really enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back.

The cafe itself is really cute and the lady who helped us was lovely and friendly. However, the pastries were simply atrocious. We ordered the fruit and lemon tarts and the filling in both quite literally resembled the texture of vaseline. Anyone who has ever baked or even eaten a proper custard or lemon curd filling wouldn’t recognize exactly what was inside these pastries. On top of that, they were cloyingly sweet and the pastry shell was hard and tasteless. To call these creations “European” is simply insulting.

From the very first bite, it’s immediately clear that this bakery operates on a different level—one rooted in true European tradition rather than imitation. Every element, from texture to flavor, reflects a level of care, restraint, and craftsmanship that is increasingly rare.

The pastries strike that perfect balance between richness and refinement: indulgent without being heavy, flavorful without relying on excess sugar. The layers are delicate and intentional, the crumb tender yet structured, and the finishes subtle rather than overpowering. Nothing tastes rushed or mass-produced. Instead, everything feels thoughtfully made, as though time and technique were given the respect they deserve.

What stands out most is the authenticity. This is European-style baking done properly—where quality ingredients speak for themselves and elegance is achieved through precision, not flash. The flavors are nuanced and comforting, the kind that linger pleasantly rather than overwhelm, inviting you to slow down and actually savor what you’re eating.

Even beyond the taste, there’s a sense of pride and tradition evident in the final product. It feels less like ordering dessert and more like experiencing a small, beautifully executed moment of culinary culture.

Simply put, this bakery delivers excellence with grace. It’s the kind of place you remember, recommend, and return to—not out of habit, but because it genuinely sets a standard.
