Visited Rodrigo’s Mexican Grill in North Laguna Hills and had a mostly good experience. The interior and overall vibe of the place are amazing — warm, lively, and perfect for a relaxed meal.

We ordered chips and salsa, chicken burrito, and chicken fajitas, along with a Mexican cocktail for drinks. The food was pretty good, flavorful, and satisfying overall. The drinks were enjoyable and paired well with the meal.

The only downside was the service. It felt slower than expected, and we didn’t receive some of the dips we had requested. That part was a bit disappointing, but aside from that, everything else about the visit was nice.

Overall, a good Mexican spot with great ambience and solid food. With more consistent service, it could easily be even better.

This restaurant has been in business for decades (formerly Don Jose’s). Imo, the food is average and largely uninspired, though the chips are very good by most standards – think, fresh, warm, and crisp, and the service is very good. The guacamole was okay, but not, I think, house-made. The margaritas are likewise meh, though I did like having it served with the tequila in a shot glass on the side. We went to this restaurant because my parents have been going there for years, but it is not a place I would return to by my own choice.

Delicous meals, great service & nice atmosphere. We ordered Steak Quesadilla and the 2 Item Chicken Enchilada with green sauce combination. Didn’t get a photo before we gobbled everything down., even after eating a full basket of fresh warm tortilla chips & 2 dishes of salsa! Check out their weekday lunch specials too.

We absolutely love this location.
The food is always exceptional!
My favorites are the Steak Fajitas, the Fajita Burrito, Riggs Chimi and the Ultimate Burrito,
The Pasilla Chili Relleno is out ofbthis world especially paired with a Tamale, taco or enchilada. Honestly you can’t go wrong. I could live on the housemate salsa and chips!

THRY HAVE TE BEST LUNCH SPECIALS!

My grandkids love the nachos!

We were a group of 21 ladies last night after church. We let mgr. Alex, know we were coming ahead of time and he set up a nice area for us. Jackie was our server and she was wonderful, taking care of us with ease. Such a great evening, we will be back. Thank you Alex. I highly recommend Rodrigo’s for any size group.

We had been waiting weeks for today, Rodrigo’s ( or as we still think of it, Don José) 53rd anniversary. They were running a special, for the occasion – their cheese enchilada and taco combo for $9.52, and house margaritas for $6.
Rodrigo’s ( Don José) has been our go to for Mexican food for close to 30 years. They did not disappoint. The food was excellent, hot and fast. We had our favorite server, Alejandro, who has worked there for 25 years, which was a bonus.
Our only request? That they run specials more often.

Let’s start with the tortillas/chips……they use a poor quality tortilla, and in Southern California there are SO many choices and places to get good quality tortillas. The chips were warm and crisp, BUT again, they use a poor quality tortilla so they aren’t a good quality chip. The salsa…….personally i don’t like a chunky salsa, but i know that’s a me thing……HOWEVER the salsa bowl they brought out was basically five HUGE chunks of tomato, with a little liquid and other salsa ingredients in it. That’s not salsa. That’s chunks of tomato. The service was on the slow side. I would totally understand that if it was busy, but it wasn’t. The soup I ordered never came out (they made up for that). The food was delicious, but again, with the poor quality tortilla it brought the taste of the taco (shredded beef) down. They need to get a decent tortilla (the ones they use, think mass produced grocery store quality). And the rice, I’m almost 100% positive it’s instant rice. Nothing wrong with instant rice, but not what you expect to get when dining out. (the beans were really really good). Would I go again? Only if I was with people who wanted to go. I wouldn’t select it as somewhere I wanted to go. Would I recommend it? No. They could fix SO much if they just got a better quality tortilla (and if they put some actual salsa in with the tomato chunks).

The server was really on top of things. To start we loved the salsa and chips. The burrito was pretty delicious!

I grew up eating at this location when it was Don Jose’s. I stopped in yesterday while visiting from the East Coast and the food has not changed a bit. Excellent burritos ranchero with great chips and salsa to compliment the main dish. I was so glad, that despite the name change, this Mexican restaurant did not disappoint. The only shortcoming being that I have to travel 2,500 miles to enjoy it.

As a resident of Santa Fe NM I was curious to see how this food would compare with Northern NM food. While this food was delicious, it was very Calif style Mexican food. Lots of cheese and mild red sauce. No real pico de gallo salsa. No Cilantro which is a staple of Northern NM food.
