Dewayne and I recognized RSB as a Grace Klein Community partner and decided to give them a try. We were not disappointed! We both had the pulled pork plate. Dewayne loved the cook on the meat (he’s a BBQ snob!) and the banana pudding was divine. I enjoyed Mac and cheese and baked beans alongside my pork with an apple pie for dessert.

Service was stellar and food was brought out hot and quick. Will come again!

Why so serious
Very disappointed. This was my first time here, and it will also be my last.

I only visited because I’ve watched several of your competitions and expected a high-quality experience. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. After paying, we waited about 18 minutes for our food—even though there were only two people in the restaurant.

When the food finally arrived, it was barely lukewarm, which made the long wait even more frustrating. The brisket was the worst I’ve ever had—completely bland, with no seasoning, and it tasted like it had been sitting in a warmer for days. The turkey was very tender, but it also lacked seasoning. The mac and cheese was mediocre—not terrible, but nothing special. The baked beans need improvement; they were overly sweet, lacked depth, and tasted like canned beans with brown sugar added.

The ribs were ok. I rank them 5 out
of 10. The taste was bland as if they forgot to season the meat before smoking it.

Overall, I was very disappointed, especially because my expectations were high. I’ve been involved in several competitions, and I can honestly say my food at home is far better. I do not recommend this place as top-tier.

The only positive experience was the manager (the black female with the dress shirt) who was very professional and pleasant when she brought the food to our table.

Big thumbs down.

Rodney Scott’s is typically one of my favorite places to eat anytime I visit Homewood. So I hate to post this! And with what I saw I am honestly not sure how to rate it.

The food tasted great as always. There was a woman working who appeared to be reviewing their processes and said something about an employee eating something while on the front line. She stated it was not allowed and it appeared to be resolved. After our meal, I was waiting for others in my party to use the restroom before leaving. I then saw an employee come back from the restroom (assuming he washed his hands in the restroom because he did not when he returned to the kitchen), put on an apron and gloves, then proceeded to eat something he picked up from on the line. I then saw another employee pick up something from under a heat lamp and eat it as well. He put whatever it was in his mouth and then wiped his mouth on the back of his glove. He then went back two more times to eat something else. Two separate employees were eating as well with gloves on. For reference, they were in the kitchen, but could be seen through the large window.

Service to the table was great! Dining room was clean! Food tasted great! But the actions of the cook and prep staff is not what I expected. So again, a little difficult to rate. If it wasn’t for that it would’ve been 4-5 stars all the way across.

Came to Birmingham to visit our son in college here. I heard about RSB on TikTok. I also searched on Google and it had great reviews. I do this often when I visit new places and at times get very disappointed. That was not the case today at RSB! The restaurant was clean although the ladies room needed a toilet paper restock. The employees were all very friendly and helpful. The cashier gave us his favorite menu items and the most popular items. Absolutely nothing was bad. Let’s get to todd food… The ribs tender and the right amount of smoke. Brisket was moist and flavorful. Carolina pork reminded me of home, yep Carolina. Now that smoked turkey was hands down my favorite! It was moist and delicious. The reviews did not lie. Smoked turkey is not normally on my radar but I’m happy that I tried it. So, let’s discuss the sides…collard greens were seasoned great a bit tough but really good for a restaurant (I make the best collards so I’m picky). Baked beans have a vinegar flavor with a slight sweetness. They were decent but could use a little more sweet. Potato Salad surprised be, this isn’t usually something I’d eat from a restaurant. It had a good mustard taste, it was a little salty this could be fixed easy with an addition of sweet relish. Mac&cheese was the best I’ve EVER had at any restaurant. Baked, creamy, and seasoned just right. The cornbread was moist with a slight drizzle of honey. It was the perfect palette cleaner. My husband had the apple pie(I didn’t try it) he said it was fresh and good but crust was not as flaky as he wished. The banana puddin was good. You could tell it was fresh because the chunks of banana were still firm and not brown. The puddin was in the sweeter side. My real complaint is that they used an instant pudding in the banana flavor. Switch that to vanilla and it would be dang near homemade. Overall this was the best BBQ we’ve had in some time.

Ribs and Brisket were excellent. Love that the sauces are on the table and easy to try. All of our sides were amazing and I didnt know I needed a loaded baked potato with my bbq but its my new fave.

There is a parking lot near the location, but we parked further down the street and took a quick walk on over. The people working were so incredibly nice and cracked jokes while we were ordering, making it a comfortable environment. Jaquarrius specifically was super cool and was the one who took our order. I got the whole hog sandwich with a side of mac and cheese, and then a tater truck. The sandwich was on sliced bread, which I was not a fan of as I prefer my BBQ being on a bun. The mac and cheese was good, but there was a small amount provided for the $4 price point. The bowl it came in was pretty shallow. The pork was delicious and the sauce was great, but the sliced white bread got soggy easily and it fell apart. They had sauces at the table to try. The tater truck was good but for a $6.50 price point, it could have been better. We placed our order at the counter, got a number, then sat down. Our food was then brought to us and then employees would check in on us from time to time, which was nice! They had sweet tea and it was really good. Overall, the experience was good but was a little expensive for what it was.

We went to a research workshop and they had Rodney Scott’s cater and we were delighted! My wife and I split the pulled chicken sandwich with white sauce and the brisket sandwich with red sauce. Their white sauce is to die for!! And the red sauce is so different and has a kick to it. I would definitely eat there again! The Mac and cheese was not to be missed either. Definitely check out and support this black-owned business ❤️

The food is delicious! Mason at the register patiently answered all of our questions. He made sure to ask if we wanted to go cups for our drinks. Victoria our server was very accommodating. They made our dining experience even better!

Last night was the first time we have eaten at Rodney Scott’s BBQ. My husband had a long day and usually cooks dinner. So, I suggested we go out to eat, which we do not do very often now because of less disposable income – like many middle-class families. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed with our first time at your Homewood location. Our order came out in a timely fashion, but minus the salad dressing and bbq sauce for the chicken, both of which we requested when we ordered. My husband was happy with his pork and chicken bbq and loved the beans. My experience was less stellar. The catfish was passable, and while the potato salad was great, the hush puppies were not fully cooked (given the runny batter in the middle – which there is no excuse for). My salad was pleasant after I got past the very wilted lettuce on top and acquired some salad dressing from the person behind the counter. At this point, I was happy my husband was happy, and I was willing to live with my food despite the issues. However, once we were about three-quarters through our dinner, the service and atmosphere went downhill quickly. Although the restaurant closed at 9pm, and we arrived at 7:30, the staff began their closing routine at 8:05. One staff member, while wearing a jacket (BECAUSE IT WAS 40 DEGREES OUTSIDE!) propped open the patio door so she could bring in items from the patio tables. She did this while we were the only people in the restaurant and sitting relatively close to, and directly in-line with, the propped-open door. As we kept glancing over, she and another staff member, proceeded to keep the door open for about ten minutes and paid no attention to us whatsoever. Maybe we should have said something. But at that point, it was clear they wanted to go home and were unconcerned with us. I hurriedly finished my food and drink so we could leave. My husband had to ask for a to-go container, because again, we were the last thing on their mind. As we left and walked past the patio on the way to our car, we saw them finally close the patio door. That alone indicated they could have waited until we were gone to handle removing items from the patio and blasting us with extremely cold air. To summarize, between the issues with my dinner and the very inconsiderate staff, we will not waste our money at this place again. In fact, I do not see the point in visiting any of the other Rodney Scott locations. There are far too many restaurants that would appreciate our business and not ruin an otherwise pleasant evening for us.
