The chicken & waffles came out with a crispy, golden crust and plenty of syrup options, and the presentation was great. Portions are generous, and the space has that rustic-chic look that makes it an easy place to settle in for brunch.
Overall, a solid neighborhood stop if you’re in Manhattan Beach and want a relaxed brunch with exceptional service.
We got there during happy hour. The guacamole and chips were tasty, especially for the price. The drinks came out in a timely fashion.
We both had burgers. I enjoyed the wagyu Burger is cooked perfectly to order. No complaints.
Our server was very prompt, very energetic, constantly checking on us. I would come here again.
Menus with some appealing options. I was excited to see red snapper tacos and expected them to be super fresh as we are with in walking distance of the ocean. Boy were we in for a surprise. The plate
Looked amazing but smelled as if the fish had been sitting out for days. It was such a strong pungent odor me and my daughter both looked at each other skeptical as the server knowingly left the odorous arrangement in front of us and whisked away as though hurrying before we could complain. As my daughter ventured first for the black bean side Shè immediately noticed they were barely warm and almost cold as if they came from The fridge.
We continued staring at each
Other looking for reassurance that the tacos though foul… were flavorful, only to share Mutual disappointment. The tacos were served warm but no flavor in the slaw and possibly undercooked fish. Not a hint of seasoning, and when I tell you we smelled of fish for hours after just touching the tacos, no sanitizer or lotion was a Match for that smell. Reluctantly we waved down the server and he said before we could open are
Mouth, is it too fishy?? I’m
Like you knew it was bad when you served it to us. He apologized and took it off the bill but he should have never let that plate leave the Kitchen with fish in that condition.Great location but I can’t recommend this place at all with possibly hazardous food being served.
I would like to start with our server/manager was pleasant and friendly. Although I felt the restaurant seemed short staffed. Like there should have been another server on the floor. We had our dog with us and that was fine. We sat outside.
The atmosphere was typical Manhattan Beach. Rustic with fancy dashes here and there. Typical metal wood combo seen all along the beach front.
The food…well this is where the restaurant fell short. We had the guacamole and chips as our appetizer. It was ok. The guac could have used a little more salt and a tad less lime.
I had the cheese steak, my wife the chicken wrap. In addition, we ordered the truffle parmesan fries and spicy green beans.
The cheese steak was fairly disappointing. Too little steak, or possibly too chunky. Leaving lots of bread, sauce and not much meat. The steak itself was tough and practically impossible to bite though. The flavor was lacking overall. I ended up having to salt and add left over guac to it to try to pick up the taste profile. Ultimately I had eaten the few pieces of steak out of it and basically left half a sub bun empty on my plate. Possibly it would have been more pleasing had the steak been shredded. Allowing for better coverage and not such a tough bite.
The Truffle Parm fries were ok. Although Truffle Parm fries seem to be a south Cal staple. These were a pale comparison to those at HopDoddy’s and the like. They seem to be shy of truffle oil. Making them just Parm fries. Not so exciting.
Spicy green beans were the star of the show. Cooked perfectly with just enough heat to experience it, yet enjoy it. If you go here. You really need to try these.
To finish up we ordered the bread pudding. It was a Frankenstein example at best of what bread pudding could be. So in terms of the worst item, this beat out the steak sandwich hands down. Over baked, I presume in the reheating process. The entire bottom blackened. Leaving that not so pleasant after taste throughout the pudding. Then in some weird Twilight Zone episode they added a very tart berry sauce with Carmel. Which neither looked or tasted very good. Avoid this at all costs. Unless you’re eating with someone you don’t like. Then recommend it to them.
With the tip it ran about $110 bucks for two people. So if you have no appreciation of money or enjoy average food at Manhattan Beach prices. Then go here. Otherwise you have lots of choices within walking distance that may prove more fulfilling.
