The restaurant easily accommodated an impromptu medium size Family gathering and everything we ordered to eat was flavorful and came with quite sizeable portions. The bar has local drafts as well as macros and the mixologists behind the bar did well with every cocktail we asked for. The rooftop bar, called The Nest, serves food and drinks in the afternoons from Thursdays through the weekend & has wonderful views of the campus

While the overall food and atmosphere was good, I’m giving Rock & Hawk three stars overall due to the quality of service.

We had a team of 10 join Rock & Hawk for a lunch reservation and encountered a few problems along the way:

1. Accuracy of orders: Two people ordered the same menu item, but one person was given a item that looked way different. So, they got one right and one wrong. Another person ordered an item sans some ingredients and was served the menu item with one of the ingredients still included, so that one got mentioned to the server and sent back to the kitchen. When the menu item was re-made and finally brought out it no longer included the item that was supposed to be left off (yay!), but was then missing an ingredient that wasn’t asked to be removed. I acknowledge that kitchens may struggle with menu adjustments and customizations, but as long as someone takes the time to pause and read the exact item ordered, this really shouldn’t be that difficult (not rocket science, right?). If it is a place that allows for the adding/removing (which Rock & Hawk does), then they should own it and follow-through.

2. Timing: While we did have a larger group everyone’s food came out at a staggered pace, so half the group was waiting to eat their food while we we waited for me two more rounds of other people’s food to come out (and this excludes waiting on the person mentioned above who had to have their menu item re-made because it came out incorrectly– as that would bring it up to three rounds of food being brought out). It was rather awkward when some people out of respect had to sit with their food and wait for all orders to be completed.

3. Payment: We had mostly individualized tickets and rather than the waiter handing the tickets directly back to the person (with their card inside), the stack of returned cards (in the little black books) were simply sat in the middle of the table in a pile– which seemed like pretty low effort– that then made us open up all of them and find our own cards.

The potential is there as the food is actually excellent and the large windows make for a lovely atmosphere. It’s also clean and conveniently near campus.

However, when taking feedback into consideration, I think they need to re-think how they double check kitchen orders before being sent out, they need to do their best to serve a group their orders at the same time, and they need to respectfully hand an individualized card payment back to its direct owner (when there are multiple people present).
