Social Profile:

In Japanese, Robata means by the fireside, and refers to the centuries-old country style cooking of northern Japanese fishermen. Evenings in coastal villages found fishermen cooking their catch over an open fire, then sharing among themselves by passing food on oars from boat to boat. Our menu honors the Robata tradition of sharing and sampling. Appetizer-size portions allow you to feast on a variety of authentic Robata dishes. Delicious possibilities are limited only by the whims of your palate and the size of your appetite. We hope you’ll enjoy this unique, free-style dining at Robata Grill. The warm, friendly atmosphere of open flame cooking adds to any meal, anywhere in the world.

Japanese chefs prepare grilled meats, vegetables & seafood in an airy dining room with ornate decor.

The flavors are great and the portion sizes are ok but the prices are a little steep. I would expect salad and miso with my $28 dinner teriyaki plate. Instead it’s an additional $9.50. My partner enjoyed their sushi. Tempura tasted fresh and clean. Service was nice and timely.

Just moved to Mill Valley and Japanese food is my fav – Patient recommended this spot.

TLDR: Will likely try elsewhere before coming back or bringing family/friends here due to this first experience.

Service: Grill and sushi are in the name, so I got a grilled item and sushi, takeout. Order should have been ready before 7:30 pm, got there at 7:35 pm, and was told I still had to wait 15 mins.

Food: Both have good flavor, but finding a bug on the likely unwashed lettuce leaf plated under my food killed my appetite.

Overall food is pretty decent The location is right off the freeway so easy to get to during the day since it is inside a business complex. Parking can be a challenge, especially if you have any walking restrictions. The restaurant is moderately clean and atmosphere is beautiful with all of the glass surroundings however, service is very lackluster. We had to wait a few times for someone to bring us water and utensils and no one ever checked on us during the entire duration of our stay, we had to ask the hostess a few times to bring someone to the table for the check and The aforementioned water and utensils. Also for one beer and three main courses with an appetizer it came out to about 130 bucks before tax and tip. So definitely not something that’s casually priced but in Marin County don’t expect to be cheap.

My wife and I went on a much needed date night & chose Roberta because it was on our list of places to try in Marin. The Chefs welcomed my wife and I & the hostess sat us right away for an early Saturday night. We really enjoyed the dark wood decor and didn’t realize how big the place was. Our waiter came right away with water and menus and we could tell the service was going to be spot on. We ordered the Blue Crab as an appetizer; I ordered the Lamb and my wife ordered the Miso Black cod; both were delicious and dipped out rice in the miso sauce (it was that good). The Matcha Tiramisu was a nice touch after a wonderful meal and definitely will be back with friends/family. Keep up the good work!!!

Long time Japanese grill and sushi bar just off the freeway. Consistent high quality food. Tempura was a good mix of vegetables with a couple of big shrimp, cooked in a light tempura batter. The broccoli could have been cut up a bit. Excellent poki salad, with delicious tuna covered in roe and sesame oil. California roll was good too. Reasonable prices and really friendly service. Recommended.

I stay at the hotel down the street from this restaurant for business purposes weekly. I was craving sushi, and some sake, searched locations near me and less than a 1/4 mile away here’s Robata! Although they don’t carry my go-to sake, I tried their recommendation and ordered up sushi. Everything about the food, drink and location was outstanding. I’ve now got “my sushi place” in Mill Valley. If your near by, passing by or wanna go for a drive, check this place out.

Beautiful restaurant with fine Sushi’s and Sake. If you are visiting Mill Valley, this is a great stop for lunch and dinner. Seating is very nice, service is quick. Sake is very clean. Sushi is cooked to perfection.

This restaurant serves the usual assortment of Japanese cuisine, with a Robata for the grilled items, which is fairly unique in the Bay Area. The sushi and sashimi are okay, with most fish lacking in freshness/flavor and some even on the dry side. The soba and udon are decent. The food itself would have gotten three stars if priced for the quality, but the total cost of dinner was quite a bit higher than what we thought it was worth.

Very pricey. $34.50 for a 10 piece sashimi! $19.25 for a 5 piece sashimi. The hostess also asked if we could leave before 6:30pm. So we ate and left within 40 mins ‍♀️ Been to a few Japanese across the world so it’s not like this is new. I actually love Japanese food.
