I stopped in after not visiting for a while and they are still serving up wonderful breakfasts in a cozy and friendly ambience. They have a big menu and everything I’ve had here over the years has been hearty and satisfying. The plate size pancake is really a pancake and not an excuse for one with a baking soda aftertaste. The crowd always seems jolly and I think it’s because they take care with the food and service. It’s not flashy, just honest good food.

My favorite diner of all time!
Best Eggs Benedict I’ve ever had!
I love that their home fries aren’t salty, and their homemade toast (sun-dried is my favorite) is so delicious.
I love this cozy diner so much!

While traveling through western Massachusetts, I noticed the Roadhouse Cafe and decided to stop in. What a wonderful surprise. The corned beef hash was amazing, and the potatoes were perfectly seasoned. I was also pleasantly surprised by the wide variety of homemade breads they offer.

I decided to try the pumpkin French toast, and it was a great choice. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care.

Highly recommend checking this spot out and supporting a great small business.

Awesome, cozy little breakfast spot! Big portions and great food! Homemade breads are amazing, highly recommend the onion dill. You can get loafs to go as well. Pancake is huge and fluffy. Banana bread French toast was super thick. Veggie sausage patties available for vegetarians. Awesome service!

This was a great find. They had great service. The staff were very friendly and professional. The food was delicious. We got here and it was about packed to max capacity but we were able to order, eat and leave within 30 minutes without being rushed. The parking is very convenient with a lot right outside. I really appreciated the interior design, it gave quite the homey feel. I am looking forward to going back again soon!

While visiting a local business this morning I mentioned I was on my way to the Roadhouse for breakfast. The person attending to me said that she’d been there recently and it wasn’t any good. I was really surprised because I’ve been going there since my children (now 42 and 38) were in elementary school. What about the home made bread I asked. She told me about other places that were good instead. The last time I was the roadhouse in mid April of this year. Up until then the worst thing I could say about the place was that a meal had been merely good instead of great.

Until today. It began with the coffee which tasted like coffee grounds. Where’s the pitcher with cream? Replaced by little plastic, disposable half & half containers. To get 1 1/2 teaspoons worth of sub par cream I had to use 3 pieces of plastic. Not good at all. Onto my order. Two eggs, scrambled, extra dry, please. With home fries and a side of salsa. Toast, too. Oh, no! No homemade bread? Bummer. That was one of the best things about the Roadhouse! Okay, a piece of coffee cake then. My companion ordered French toast and bacon.

My coffee cake arrived. Not baked in house, but pretty okay for “store bought”. Had it with my unpleasant coffee while we waited at least 20 minutes for our food to arrive. And then I was served. The home fries looked weird, not crispy at all and kind of mushy like leftover potatoes from the fridge. Took a bite int a barely warm mealy potato that had not ever seen a griddle, never mind been fried. Bad, really bad. Had my companion taste a piece and he concurred. I told the server about this and was told it was probably a new batch . Okay. She gamely offered to get me a new helping which would be crispy. Then I took a small bite of my eggs. Barely warm. Oh oh, not again. The side of salsa was about a tablespoon’s worth in another disposable plastic container. I put it on my eggs, hoping that would fool me into thinking the eggs would improve. Nope. Took another tiny bite and it didn’t help. Barely warm and bordering on wet and slimy. At that point I went up to the counter and said never mind about crisping up my home fries. I nursed my coffee, which I had topped off, out of habit because it was bad coffee and I didn’t drink much more than half a mug. I waited while my companion ate his French toast, which he said was okay, but very dense. His bacon was four slices, which side by side would look like a dollar bill on a plate. In other words- very small.

When the waitress came with the bill, I asked if it was new ownership to which she said yes. I then told her, in exceedingly polite terms, the condition of my eggs and home fries and how disappointed I was in the quality, taste, and lack of preparation that went into the meal. I let her know that in no way was she responsible and she apologized. She came back with the slip, we tipped her 20% and left.

In my opinion, a thoughtful, if not practical business decision would have been to discount the uneaten meal. Two bites of potatoes and two bites of eggs. But no. The care for the customer was equal to the care put into making the uneaten food. Even if there had been a discount for the awful food, I would not have returned, but at least the Roadhouse would have gotten points for trying to make it right. They did not.

Bottom line, bad food, bad business. Hard pass. This is not THE ROADHOUSE that so many have gathered at for decades. It’s something else altogether. Frankly, it sucked.

Everything is overcooked portions are small and irregular. Service was horrible as well as moody regular customers. Not worth the money spent. Find somewhere else.

Loved every minute of our breakfast! We were greeted promptly and happily as we walked in, got a cute 2-seater table inside and were impressed by all of the options! We both got the #5, one with a blueberry pancake, one with banana bread French toast. The mugs were the perfect size for our hot coffees and they were never empty! We’ll definitely be back.

Food was delicious.
They have fresh French toast that’s humongous . If you want something special, they can make the French toast with banana bread or pumpkin bread. Eggs Florentine was very good. Staff was very cheerful.

In the current ownership, the Roadhouse Cafe has begun to really shine as their menu reflects good home cooked goodness.
Atmosphere inside is and has always been “Homey and inviting.” Eggs were completely yummy as I had asked for them to be soft scrambled, and sausage was savory juicy and hot.
The plate sized pancake was a bonus due to its size , texture, and crispy but retaining a flavor that was very, very yummy..
Coffee is also very good
If you want more, the fresh cinnamon coffee cake is the perfect ending to a Scrumptious breakfast. I highly recommend you visit this jewel in Belchertown on Rte 9 across from the entrance to Bay Road.
