1st time trying out this place. I will say this, everyone there was nice & kind. I see why this place stays packed the food is fresh and hot and things that make sense are cooked when ordered. The lasagna was delicious and the yams. Catfish was also really good and the fries were great, even the coleslaw was good. The only downside was the collard greens they weren’t bad but I’ve had better otherwise this place would’ve definitely gotten a 5 out of 5 star for me. I will still definitely try this place out again next time I come down this way. This is now my mom’s favorite spot❤️

While visiting Greenville, NC, I searched for nearby restaurants and came across RJ’s. The menu immediately caught my attention because it sounded like some good, old-fashioned Southern cooking — and let me just say, Southern is an understatement. When I saw items like pigtails and chitterlings on the menu, I knew this was the real deal.
When I arrived, the line was out the door, which is always a tell-tale sign that something good is happening inside. Despite the wait, the line moved steadily, and the atmosphere felt welcoming and familiar — the kind of place locals clearly love and support.
I ordered the chopped turkey barbecue with cabbage and fried okra, and every meal comes with hush puppies, which was a nice bonus. The food was absolutely to die for. Everything was flavorful, well-seasoned, and cooked with care. The cabbage was hands down my favorite — perfectly seasoned and full of rich, comforting flavor. The turkey barbecue was tender and satisfying, and the fried okra was crispy and done just right.
RJ’s is the kind of place that doesn’t try to be fancy — it just delivers authentic, soul-satisfying Southern food, and does it extremely well.
I’ll definitely return the next time I find myself in Greenville. If you’re looking for real Southern cooking and don’t mind waiting in line for something worth it, RJ’s is a must-stop.

Different. Walking in…I was no thanks but I was curious. It’s soul food. They give large servings. It was somewhat tasty but not as good as I expected being soul food. Example. The yams were real sweet potatoes, not canned. But they were missing seasoning like brown sugar, cinnamon etc. String beans were okay just not good good. They did have salt on them. The ribs were decent. Maybe I’m just picky. But it was reasonably priced.

What an intriguing visit, seemingly back into the year 1998, the shopping area appeared tattered and beat, customer service seems non-existent and possibly due to long standing popularity of their menu items and heavy plates, but there is NEVER a time to forget the #1 goal of any eatery! Nice to spend a few moments over dinner in Greenville, NC with a loving family!!

This place has got it going on! The line moved quick and the girl serving the meat was so friendly and patient with my indecisive, picky 5 year old. The ribs and chicken are incredible, but so are the sides. The portions are huge! This is some really good southern food.

Giant portions. I’ve never seen anyone fit so much veggies in a serving spoon/ladle. Food is on point; staff has a great attitude and seems to enjoy themselves. A real community, built in real honest-to-goodness home-style cookin’. Don’t miss: fried okra cooked fresh to order.

Walking in RJ’s I could already tell it would be good as there was a line almost out the door. Even with almost 30 people in front of me the wait was not long at all, however I did appreciate it because it gave me time to read over the entire menu. Everything on the menu is very reasonably priced as well. I love how you can see all the food options before you choose as well, however it does make it hard to choose because everything looks so good. I ended up getting the large bbq plate with a side of macaroni and mashed potatoes which came as a huge portion for the price of only $8.99 (they even included some hush puppies). I also got a order of the banana pudding which was delicious. I sat and ate inside and everything was clean and the staff treated me very well. I would 100% recommend this for anyone looking for some delicious authentic NC bbq!

Food was good but not epic southern good. Huge portions but ended uo tossing half of it. If you order and there’s a line dont order the fish, 1 pc took 20 min. But again you and 3 people can eat for 25$

This was a pleasant surprise! The ENTIRE staff is polite, helpful and efficient. This was my first time here and I’m amazed at how much food they put into those styrofoam trays. They use the BIG styrofoam trays. The food was good and a bit under seasoned (for MY taste) BUT I appreciate that because they may be catering to people who are on low sodium diets, children, etc. The meats and vegetables were of good quality and cooked perfectly. I had so much food on my tray that it was LITERALLY OVERWHELMING. My food and beverage came to under $17.00 and it was enough food for 3 meals. They serve a good product at reasonable prices.
Thank you RJ’s for wonderful service and quality food.

This was my first time visiting, and I was very impressed, the food was absolutely delicious, you are greeted by the servers, and the atmosphere was absolutely amazing. I look forward to going back again when ever I’m in Greenville North Carolina. Also the cashier was generous enough to ask if it was my first visit, and I said yes, and was given my drink for free, that made me feel very welcomed.
