My friend and I visited the Café a week before the national lock down was announced. I loved the Oxtail and livers dish we ordered, great portions at great prices. I also had the best Chocolate cake EVER for desert .

The food here is amazing. I would recommend the mix sishebo, you get two types of meat.

– Affordable, dishes are between R60 – R120
– Pork trotters are to die for
– Organic chicken / Umleqwa is so tasty & well cooked
– Steam bread / dombolo is fresh
– I love the tomato salsa
Bads
– The wait for food is long (on Mondays), it’s better to call and place your order on the morning

I had to write a review of this place because I loved it! Great food, good service and a definite vibe.
The service was friendly but not overly so… Everything about this place just seemed genuine.
Even the fact that they had no drinks to serve us, other than tea! At any other time this would be frustrating and a turn off, but there was an alternative…we had the option to order drinks from their neighbors, a bar next door.
They had three items on the menu, and it was exactly what we were looking for. Home-y stew-y comfort food on a August-ly windy and chilly day.
The food tasted amazing! No unnecessary spice fusions or bells and whistles. Just good old beef stew and dombolo (with 2 side veggies, my order). My partner had oxtail with pap. We obviously tasted each others food. I didn’t hanker for his plate and he wasn’t jealous of mine.
All of these elements created a vibe. Granted a vibe is greatly dependent on a person’s ability to be open to new experiences.
We got what we asked for and are happy to have discovered this gem of a café!

The food was great though we had to wait a while for it. The staff was also a bit slow but overall it was a great Sunday lunch.
