This is a perfect FLORIDA themed on the river restaurant!
Great fun and sea food! You can pull up to the dock with you boat or park your car in their lot! Great indoor and outdoor covered seating! Food is pretty good— I suggest the sea food more than the other offerings. I wish they had loaded / truffle fries or cheddar biscuits something like that it would Killer! But the mahi fingers were great and the sea food platter! My chicken and shrimp flavors were amazing, but the chicken was a bit dry! Great beverages too! A solid choice!

Service started out a little shaky, once our waiter realized we were there, the service was on point. I enjoyed the smoked meat platter and my wife enjoyed her blackened chicken. It’s a nice spot on the river.

First time at this place. I saw other great reviews and decided to have a go at it.

Atmosphere: This place has both indoor and outdoor seating available with some of the outdoor seating directly overlooking the river (hence its name). It has a “river adventure” vibe mixed with a bit of rustic mixed in. Parking is plentiful even on busy nights. There’s also a walking path that takes you down to the river if you’re looking to stretch your legs.

Food: they do have a few local brews on tap (as shown in the photos) and I tried the Bayou Bock. Wonderful! Started off with the Gator Bites. Yes, definitely try those. Perfectly breaded, well seasoned and the dipping sauce pairs well. One particular thing is that they were very tender as opposed to others. Gator tends to be somewhat chewy but not here! After that came the Cajun Mahi Tacos. These fell a bit short. The mahi seemed a bit dry and I couldn’t taste anything Cajun in it. But the fries that came with them were delicious and well prepared.

Service: great service. Very friendly. Very attentive. It was quite busy as there was a large party in the back room, but the staff and kitchen handled things very well.

Overall: great time here. Would definitely visit again to try something else. Next time I’ll look to sit outside so I can take in the views of the river. If you’re in the area this place is worth a visit. It can be a little pricey, but the portions match the price.

This is a really nice place with great food. The views are awesome and there’s seating inside and outside. We were seated right away and our server was a twin and were both helping our table. It was confusing but also so funny. We had the fish and chips meal which was big enough for two people and I would definitely go back for. The bloody Mary was really good too. We even saw a gator out back in the river

Nestled along the scenic banks of the Tomoka River, River Grille on the Tomoka offers one of the most picturesque dining settings in the Ormond Beach area. If you are looking for a venue that captures the “Old Florida” charm, this spot delivers in spades.

The Atmosphere & Service
The standout feature of River Grille is undoubtedly its vibe. The locale feels like a classic, old-school resort restaurant, offering a relaxed and nostalgic atmosphere that invites you to slow down and enjoy the waterfront views. Whether you’re sitting inside or on the deck, the “vacation mode” energy is palpable. Complementing this is the staff; the service is great, with a team that is attentive, friendly, and efficient, ensuring you feel well-attended to throughout your visit.

The Culinary Experience
However, for a restaurant that heavily showcases seafood, the kitchen can be hit-or-miss. On a recent visit, the seafood did not live up to the surroundings. The catfish had a noticeably muddy taste, which overshadowed the preparation. Additionally, the hush puppies, often a reliable staple of Southern fish houses, were unfortunately lacking in flavor and failed to make an impression.

Verdict: It is important not to judge an entire establishment based on a single meal, especially when the service and environment are so high-quality. That said, as a first experience at a seafood-centric spot, it was disappointing. River Grille remains a fantastic choice for a sunset drink or a casual gathering based on its excellent service and stunning location, but you may want to explore the non-seafood options or different catches on your first trip.

The RiverGrille on the Tomoka is a large restaurant located on US1. I got there on a Friday. It was very busy . We had to wait approximately 40 minutes to get a table. The food was good and the service was fast after the waiter arrived to take the order. I was not disappointed but I would not go on a Friday night again. Overall I recommend this restaurant

I went hear for my second date with my now wife in 2015… we had the boil for 2 and it was awesome and more than we could eat… we just revisited for Valentines day 2026 and we are surly disappointed. We both had the river combo. It was $18 each… my wife substituted fries for a small house salad and we were up charged $3… the shrimp and scallops were ridiculously small and so over cooked it was like chewing gum. The fish was good but very small portion.I posted pictures… you can see that it’s not a place I would recommend

Friendly staff and the food was great. My friend had the pulled pork sandwich and upgraded to onion strings (which were yummy) and I had the shrimp po’ boy with fries. We both enjoyed our meals and Duffy, our server, was able to answer our questions about our food options. It was a bit chilly for our taste so we sat inside but there were many people out on the deck. Definitely recommend!

This restaurant is in a beautiful location right by the water. The service was great and my mojito was delicious! The only reason why I am giving them a 4 on the food is because one of the meals wasn’t on point (Key Lime Chicken & Shrimp). The portion was very small and the rice and beans tasted odd. Nevertheless, I still recommend this place because the other meals were delicious, but keep in mind that the portions can be a bit small. Enjoy!

We stopped in for a late lunch/early dinner. What a beautiful place! When we entered the lobby there were two people at the Host stand. They did not greet us or interrupt their conversation/task. They walked out of sight. We stood for a minute, seeing no one. So we decided to wash up before being seated. When we came out of the restrooms there was a person at the Host stand. Again, she soon walked away. After several minutes another person happened by and asked if we had been helped. He took us to a great table on the deck with a lovely view of the river. The seafood was fantastic (the bun on the fish sandwich was very soggy – I didn’t eat it). The place is huge and the decor in the dining room is amazing. As we left I said good-bye to the air – the employees did not respond. We’ll go back another time, and hope for a better reception.
