This is my second time at Riverbend Roastery and I will definitely be back more often. I loved my breakfast sandwich (egg and cheese) and my iced s’mores latte. As you can see, they toast two marshmallows to put on top.
I’ll be coming back here because everything I had was delicious, but mostly because of the experience. I spilled my first smores latte (in quite dramatic fashion) and a very nice person got up to help me and my friend clean it up. A barista also came over to help with wet cloths and told me they were making me a replacement right now. It was so kind of everyone to help me.

I love it here. Delicious coffee, fresh beans for at home at a reasonable price. Welcoming atmosphere, you really can’t go wrong! Gets a bit busy on the weekend but they have a huge staff working and it moved very fast.

Riverbend Inn is a gorgeous spot with tall tiled ceilings, brick walls, and progressive vibes. Great coffee with plenty of variety (and whole beans to buy). The ciabatta with egg and bacon was tasty, well-seasoned, and the outdoor space is lovely.

Coffee itself is built on global, diverse communities, and pretending that business exists separate from people, values, or dignity just isn’t realistic. Riverbend is clear about who they are: a place that believes all people deserve respect and that communities are worth protecting.
That’s not “mixing politics and business.” That’s having values. And those values show up in how they treat customers, staff, and the neighborhood they’re part of.
If you want great coffee in a space that supports all people, Riverbend is absolutely worth your time. If that makes you uncomfortable, this probably isn’t your place—and that’s okay. They’re doing just fine without that kind of business.

I moved to Richmond six months ago. I didn’t know what to expect. I was like, Okay… am I about to become a different person? Do I say “y’all” now? Do I suddenly own a cast-iron skillet?
This coffee house is Richmond in a nutshell. The coffee is great—like, annoyingly good. You can’t mess up a latte here, but my favorite is the sugar cookie latte, which sounds fake, but somehow tastes like emotional support.
The prices are very reasonable. Which shocked me. I moved from California, where a latte costs seventeen dollars and comes with an attitude. Here? Half the price. Better quality. No judgment. What is this sorcery?
This place punches way above its weight. But the best part isn’t even the coffee—it’s the people. They welcome everyone. I came in as a new person in town and nobody was like, “So… why are you here?” Instead, it was just vibes. Warm, human vibes.
Now it’s part of my morning routine. I get my coffee before work, and when I run into the staff outside of Riverbend, they actually say hi. Like they remember me. In public. On purpose.
Also, they’re big supporters of human rights for all, which—listen—if my coffee doesn’t believe in human rights, I don’t want it.
So yeah. Great coffee. Great people. No trauma. Five stars.

Moved to the neighborhood two years ago and Riverbend is absolutely one of our staples. I constantly crave their coconut coldbrew in the off season, and am so glad that our nearest coffee shop actually has good coldbrew. Staff are really nice, they move as quickly as they can through busy weekend lines, and it always has a great vibe if we’re looking to stay there. It can be hard to find a seat on weekends, but they’ve worked to increase seating options in the last year or so. I usually stop to get a sausage egg and cheese bagel sandwich before road trips and thoroughly enjoy (I’m from New Jersey so sure, it’s not a THEC on a proper bagel, but it does the job well enough).

Great location and atmosphere, but the staff could be much friendlier. The rudeness from some employees really dampens the experience, which is disappointing given how nice the place itself is. I hope management pays more attention to how the team interacts with guests—it could easily be a five-star spot otherwise.

Riverbend is a community anchor in Church Hill. They’re a regular weekend spot for my family and me. Their coffee is great and their staff are so friendly and genuinely seek to know us on a personal level. They ask about our kid, our travels, and they get pouty when they haven’t seen us in a while. I love it.
I especially love that Riverbend shows unwavering support for the queer and immigrant communities in Richmond. It’s nice to know we have a small business that has some dignity around here.
