Great spot to stop at to eat and or drink or both, with really cool views right off the river walk! Being gluten-free I stuck to the River House Salad with grilled chicken, no seasoning, Balsamic Rasberry vinaigrette and bread on the side. We also got… for the non gluten free person, a patty melt with home made chips that he said was very very good. The patio and back enclosed area looks amazing with river views. Talked to the staff about the area and everything, very Friendly and super fast service. Offers Keno too. Highly recommend!

THE FOOD IS TO DIE FOR! I asked for my burger to be burt a little bit and to my surprise they actually did! Our waitress was very nice and quick to help!
The bathrooms on the other hand…..aren’t ideal. Very small and dark.

Excellent patio right at the confluence of the Looking Glass and the Grand River, amplified by a nice board walk and a bridge right over the confluence, accompanied with a 70ft, rare, tulip tree, band shell in the adjacent park whereupon one can enjoy the music. The patio also offers a fireplace.
This writer and guest ordered their hand battered chicken strips and French fries; Buffalo chicken wrap and homemade chips. The strips were nicely seasoned and juicy. The Buffalo chicken wrap was exceptional. Both the fries and chips had excellent taste. Good drinks however $9 for a simple highball is steep for a small town, usually found in the range of $3 to $5 in our travels in rural Michigan. Homey small town with an icream parlor right down the street to compliment our pleasant evening. We’ll be back!

What a great find! I was traveling for work in E Lansing, and have a rule of visiting Small Town USA, mom & pop type of places for dinner when I can. I chose River House Grill this trip since it was a beautiful night, and on the water. While getting off the interstate and heading in to town, I noticed this eerie presence, nothing was open, signs were dark, stop lights not working… I got to River House and a few regulars were still milling around the bar, I was told they were closed due to a power outage throughout the entire city. After some conversation, they said if I had cash, I could still buy a beer (always carry cash!). The regulars moved on, and I was finishing my drink when the power comes back on! The owner Mike had already sent most of his staff home, as the estimated power restoration was well beyond their normal operating hours, but he said he would turn the fryers back on, and start the pizza oven since I was there. I told him he didn’t have to and I would head back to East Lansing, but he insisted, at this point I was the only one in the place! Ordered a pizza, and boy was it delish! By the time my pizza had arrived, a few others had managed to come in and fill up the place! Thanks to Mike, Jen (bartender) and the staff who stayed! I can’t wait to come back and try the rest of the menu, and see the renovations next time I’m in the area!
Cheers!

I stopped in to grab something quick, and chose the 6 bread sticks with a side of ranch, and I was absolutely amazed with how delicious their bread sticks are, and don’t even get me started on the homemade ranch I was there maybe 15 minutes. I was greeted when walking in, given a menu, and had my order placed and paid for within 5 minutes, and my bread sticks were out in 5 minutes the other 5 I was admiring the slight changes since new ownership. The girl who took my order was super nice and seemed like she was attentive to her tables while making sure I was taken care of. I unfortunately forgot to tip her, so a compliment will have to suffice for now, and hopefully she sees this!

2023_08_19 We were in Holt and needed a place to eat on our way back to West Michigan. With Portland on our way and knowing Portland has a lot going for it I found Fabiano’s River House Bar & Grille on Google Maps, well rated and looking like a good place to stop. It was everything we were wanting and we will work to stop again! The service was continually and friendly! The food was great! And the atmosphere was very nice. We were there late afternoon, during a time when we could walk in and grab a table, on the deck along the river. I would imagine that is not always the case as the deck is not huge. I estimate maybe 30-40 seats. There is a bar out there as well, with maybe 8 seats. There is also an interior portion of the restaurant and bar. Totally separate but apparently still the same. Sitting on the deck, being on the Looking Glass River, just south of where it meets the Grand River, is very nice. There is a nice park across the river with an adjacent bridge, for a nice after dinner walk. And Portland seems to have a nice downtown adjacent as well, although we got on our way and didn’t spend any more time, other than driving through. Again we will work to go back.

We just had appetizers and a pizza. The pizza was the best. The pickle chips, bread sticks and pretzel were good as I’d expect. Our mixed drinks were very weak. Second one I ordered a double and couldn’t taste difference between that and a standard pour, maybe we just looked from out of town. Probably nice sitting outside in the summer but not sure I’d go back for drinks.

Looks bigger on the outside then it is on the inside. It’s very clean and pretty bright for a bar. The service was great, for bar food I feel the prices are a bit high. But so is inflation rn so. The food was good. All of ours were fried and they were freshly made.

Visited for a Thursday dinner, sat outside right above the river. Very nice views and atmosphere on the patio. Almost non-existent local beer options but many national brands available otherwise. The jambalaya was very tasty for a Midwest version, even had a little tail-end heat to it.

Being very generous with 4 stars but I felt like 3 was too low. Salad served in hot bowl, canned mushrooms on a 10 dollar burger, kids burger was extremely small even for my 5 year old. Server wears flip flops to work???? All you can eat fish your choice perch or cod…..oh wait at 6 on a Friday night they are already out of cod. There’s not many people here who ate all the cod. On further reflection I am reducing my rating to 3 stars now.
