We celebrated my 65th birthday at this fun waterside restaurant. I ordered grilled red snapper with a sweet potato, macaroni salad and cole slaw. It was a generous portion and prepared well. My wife had broiled shrimp with fries, macaroni and cold slaw. The shrimp were well-seasoned. Waiter Tyler made good drink recommendations and was very attentive. The highlight of the evening was dancing to Screaming Pineapples, a musical foursome with a diverse play list. Thanks guys for dedicating a Neal Diamond song to me for my birthday.

Warm Hospitality & Incredible Food – A True Hidden Gem!
As a local, I’ve heard rave reviews about this tucked-away spot for years—and I finally experienced it for myself. Let me just say: WOW. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm smiles and genuine friendliness.

Leigh Ann, the hostess, welcomed us with a cheerful attitude and got us seated quickly, even with the restaurant buzzing with activity. Despite how busy it was, she made time for friendly conversation, which really set the tone for the evening.

Our server, Katherine, was equally impressive—attentive without being overbearing, and always checking in to make sure we had everything we needed (often before we even realized we needed it).

Now, the food: absolutely phenomenal. I ordered the Mahi Tacos, and they were hands down one of the best seafood dishes I’ve had in Buffalo. Compliments to the chef for such a flavorful and perfectly prepared dish!

All around, this was an exceptional dining experience—from the service to the food to the atmosphere. Hats off to the entire team. I’ll definitely be back before the season ends!

Tucked along the water in Buffalo, River Grill delivered an exceptional dining experience for our family evening out. From the moment we arrived, the ambiance set the tone—relaxed yet refined.

We began with French onion soup and crab cakes, both prepared to perfection. For our entrées, I enjoyed the succulent lobster dinner, while my wife raved about the fresh, flavorful mahi-mahi tacos. Every bite reflected quality and care in execution.

What elevated the experience even further was the impeccable service—our server, Misty, was attentive, personable, and incredibly knowledgeable. When you visit (and you should), be sure to ask for her. River Grill is a true gem in Buffalo’s dining scene.

Lots of seafood on the menu. Not bad but not great. My coconut shrimp was dry and overcooked. Salads are large and packed with fixins. Well worth the money. Waitress was in her own world. Rather than ask the whole table (6 of us) if we needed refills, she’d get 2 or 3 drinks and then come back for the rest of the tables drinks. But she was pleasant enough. Beer can top was filthy and served that way. (See photo) when returned and asked for another it was like it was our fault the beer can was dirty and why wouldn’t we drink out of it that way?!?!

My husband and I had lunch here on August 5, 2023. We stopped during our bike ride along the river multi-use path. I had the grouper sandwich and my husband had the prime rib on weck sandwich. My husband had never tried beef on weck before; and now he doesn’t want to disappoint himself by trying it anywhere else. The prime rib was exceptional. We thought our meals and the atmosphere were both excellent. There was live music and our server was attentive. Great experience!

Service was slow, forgot some items. Steak was over cooked but better when I got a new one. No desserts

My son-in-law picked this place and we’re all so glad. It’s right on the Niagara River, with views of Canada and Grand Island. The parking is very limited and we grabbed the last spot despite it not being that busy. It was an exceptionally rainy July day, but no worries they have awnings to keep things dry. I had a mojito and they’re supposed to be sweet, but mine wasn’t. The server was great. I had seen reviews good & bad about them. We arrived way earlier than our reservation but since the weather was awful it wasn’t a problem. They had a musician playing acoustic guitar and singing. He was very good! My s-i-l enjoyed his birthday lobster. I absolutely loved my breaded fish fry. I definitely want to go back, but I’m anxious about the parking on a beautiful sunny day.

Decent spot where the locals gather. Food is excellent, service is incredible – good banter and jokes from the waitresses and the vibe is decent. Come here sporadically for business lunches and have never been let down by their shrimp tacos. Unreal staff with a solid owner.

I have driven past The River Grill many times, especially since I recently purchased a house in the area. So when my friend surprised me with a short visit and we wanted to go to lunch I thought I’d take her there. It is a beautiful location on the water.

However, our experience was not what we had hoped nor expected. Our waitress, LUANN, was extremely short, rude and annoyed with our presence since we sat down. My friend was the only African-American in the restaurant and she quickly felt very uncomfortable. She felt Luann’s dislike for her.

She answered questions with short, rude responses. We asked what was good or the best meals and her response was “Don’t ask me what is good here – it is all good so I can’t tell you what to get.”

She never got us any drink refills. Anything we asked for she responded as of it was a burden. I asked for ranch when I ordered, and when the food arrived and never got it.

When we were finished we waited over ten minutes for her to bring our bill. My friend gave her CC and went to the bathroom. When she returned Luann still hadn’t brought us the CC slip. She finally brought it after another ten minutes. Then she stood over my friend while she signed the receipt. As we walked away from the table, Luann shouted and the entire restaurant was forced to watch and listen as she yelled across the restaurant “Was there something wrong with the service? She didn’t tip me and your bill was $77!!!” I explained that we left a cash tip. She said “Oh you did?” and went back to the table to retrieve the cash. She then held the $8 that we left as a tip (yes it was a much smaller tip than we normally would’ve left due to the circumstances). She came up to my friend and threw the money on the table in front of where she was standing and said “Oh no honey – you can keep this!!! Your bill was $77!!!!”

It seemed like that restaurant only welcomed their older, white clientele. The bartender and two other servers apologized and said that Luann is the supervisor and she is rude and crass. They were so embarrassed at Luann’s unprofessional behavior. You could tell that they were stuck in a hostile work environment with her as their supervisor.

The food was okay but it is very overpriced. It definitely could be a nice restaurant with the ambiance and location. Also – she overcharged us. Only my friend ordered a side salad. I ordered the chowder….. Luann charged us for two salads.

Unfortunately I don’t plan on ever coming back. I’ll go to Old Man River in Tonawanda where we were treated with much more kindness and respect.

I am not from the area. A few years ago I stopped here. I really liked everything here. I have looked for the places a couple more times when driving thru the area once a year. Never found it again. I see now I changed my route after that one year. I have been wanting to take my family here. My husband just was talking about restaurants in the Buffalo area and I had to do a search. Is this place still open?
