What a charming little shop! Stepping inside feels reminiscent of Luke’s Diner from Gilmore Girls. Breakfast was delightful and reasonably priced. The hot cocoa was superb, and the Caramel Frappé was simply delicious. We’ve also enjoyed lunch here, and the sandwiches and soup are outstanding. The sweet treats are our absolute favorites, and the service is exceptional. We can’t wait to visit again.

Decided a bicycle ride was in order. Came to Polk City and found an energy replacement spot

Brief history on the place
Took our order then headed into the kitchen to cook. Oh yeah!
I was eyeing the pastries but knew I had to finish my meal before a treat.
We ordered the waffle platter for her and pancake for me. I added extra eggs and bacon.
Butter is actually butter and not frozen waiting to melt in the next heat wave. Good tasting on the waffles and pancakes.
Stellar service, and delicious everything.
No clue on the pastries though
Didn’t finish my meal.
Those dang muffins will have to wait. ❤️

This place is so yummy. The service is friendly. The food is delicious. We ordered the Pancake platter, the Breakfast platter and Blueberry French toast. It was so good we ordered another Pancake platter to share.
My husband and daughter ordered a coffee and a Frappuccino and enjoyed them. My daughter was able to ask for a less sweet version and they were happy to help.
If you’re near or in Polk City, this place is recommended. I wish I had pictures of the food but we ate everything so you get pictures of empty plates.

Perfect mom n pops local favorites. Tiny eatery with big delicious food to full you up. Our kiddos enjoyed the play dough ice cream and delicious sandwiches. If you are in polk city this is a must stop. Bypass the national chain on the corner that try to draw you in with their fancy patio and high price. Instead, stop at Rising Sun Cafe and keep the money in the community. This place is perfect, the food is delicious and the ice cream will make your palate happy.

Great little cafe with coffee shop and ice cream. Staff was great and so friendly. Our sandwiches were very good. We chose a cinnamon roll for after with coffee. This is a great place to visit. Very close to the lake and campgrounds.

This was our first time here. It was pretty good, there was a few things that could have been better but it was a good breakfast. I ordered an omelet with ham, peppers, & onions but it arrived to the table with no ham in it. It was still good with just the peppers & onions but not quite what I ordered. My wife ordered her bacon crispy but it came out droopy & didn’t have much flavor which is unusual for bacon. The biscuits & gravy were excellent, the hash browns were the right kind of crispy, & the eggs were perfect. Overall it was a good place to eat & we’ll be trying it out again!

Bad service. The person can’t even take an order for 2 people. She only took my friend’s order. Our order was together. I would hate to see what the lady that took our order would do with a large party. She didn’t even try to fix the problem. Feel sorry for the owner. $16.00 for this? I would rate a zero if that was one of my choices. The bacon was the only thing that was good. This second picture is what food should look like. We left, and went to Waveland cafe.

I often go in with my 3 very young kids, the staff is always to friendly and accommodating to them!
A little dose of reality… this place is in small town Iowa and it’s locally owned. All the more reason to LOVE it, but with that comes the service.
The service isn’t the greatest when it starts to get busy. But the wait is worth it and the food always taste phenomenal.
So take off your watch, kill an hour, relax, and enjoy your meal!

We must have come in on an off day when I look at all the other reviews. My friend was looking for a place to host the catering at an upcoming event she was having. Although they had catered a wedding my friend knew of, they said they didn’t do it.
We both got the BLT, I thought it was bland, small and overpriced for no more than you got.
The macaroni salad she ordered was too sweet so neither of us finished that. And believe me, we are eaters 🙂
The service was not really all that friendly, like the food, we found it bland.
