My husband and I always LOVE going to this awesome coffee shop after gym workout. The chai and the smoothie taste AMAZING. We also love the atmosphere. Also, the barista is absolutely kind and awesome. Definitely recommend this place.

I would definitely change the name of this place to Country Coffee House or Rio Coffee House, “Java” usually makes us run away!
The latte here tastes really good!, better than some of the fancy ones in downtown. The Jesus music is what I liked the most, I wish there was more Jesus things though 🙂 really loved the roosters crowing right outside in the morning.

Great at what it is trying to be. This is not third wave coffee, or fanciness. This is comfort, good service a nice place to hang out and reasonably priced food and drinks. Absolutely crushing it on that mission.
If you are looking for the absolute best gourmet cup of coffee or avocado toast… Perhaps not. But – very solid versions of food and drink for much less – definitely.
Recommended.

This is the kind a place I wish I lived closer to, so I could visit more frequently. I love their Ice rageous drinks. I love the small comfy feel of the place and the service is always been great.

I’ve loved their coffee ever since before they moved to Oak, back when they were in the Rio Linda boulevard parking lot. Literally always the best thing that would get me through my shift at the McDonald’s across the parking lot. I used to frequently get Irish cream with double shot of espresso and cream menthe syrup. I always enjoyed the unique flavors of whipped cream that they would come up with for the flavor of the day/week.
I was so sad to see their old place vacant, but I’m so happy to find that it’s because they moved to Oak. Will definitely be there next time I’m out in Sacramento

Love this place, been coming since 1990’s!! They moved, and they are in the original parking lot from the 90’s! (not too far from Elkhorn Blvd.) Thank goodness they are still open! Love ya Rio-Java!!!!

Update February 2026:
I’ve previously left this shop a 5-star review because I genuinely loved studying here and it’s in such a convenient location near my gym. I’ve really wanted to keep supporting it.
Unfortunately, my last two visits left me a bit confused about pricing. I was charged $6 for two shots of espresso with a splash of milk and sweetener (rung up as a white mocha), and on my most recent visit I paid $8 for three shots of espresso. For comparison, I just paid about $5 for three shots of specialty blonde espresso at Starbucks.
I also overheard a conversation behind the counter about how something was rung up, and the response was along the lines of it possibly charging more than what was ordered but making the shop more money. That comment didn’t sit well with me as a loyal customer.
I completely understand that small businesses have higher costs and need to make a profit, but pricing should feel transparent and consistent. I truly enjoy this place and hope this feedback is taken constructively.
2024 review : This is my favorite place to get coffee in Sacramento!!! They have such yummy beans and it’s the perfect place to study. It’s also a bonus that it’s next door to where I workout 🙂
