We sat at the bar where Ben, the bartender, took great care of us. He was attentive, full of recommendations, and even shared a few local tips on what to do around town. The restaurant has that open-kitchen concept, which adds a nice lively touch. Their happy hour runs daily from 2 PM – 6 PM, and here’s what we tried:
Smoked Salmon Fish Dip with Sourdough Bread – absolutely delicious! Smoky, savory, with just the right amount.
Oysters on the Half Shell – fresh and local, can’t go wrong there.
Manhattan – my boyfriend’s drink of choice.
Paloma – my pick, refreshing and well-made.
The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. I even managed to get some work done while enjoying my drink. I chatted with a friendly local sitting next to me who gave more nightlife recommendations (Seattle folks are seriously the nicest!).
Overall, Rider is a great place to unwind, enjoy good food and drinks, and soak in that welcoming Seattle vibe, especially convenient if you’re a guest at the hotel.
We bought a bottle of wine that stole the entire show.
The staff is so kind, the food is amazing, the service is quicker than one could even imagine.
5/5 can’t wait to dine here again.
The server was amazing however.
As was the glass of wine.
Loved the way they served the raw oysters, on a metal container of ice.
Beautiful decor with the subway tiles and metal.
We came back for dessert at the bar which was lovely.
The whipped potatoes were okay. I mean they were as good as normal mashed potatoes were I didn’t really have much of a garlic flavor to them even though I did see pieces of roasted garlic in there. It was okay.
The alcoholic drink Papa legba that I got that was really good. That was probably the only thing that I’d say was above average.
I also helped out with their seafood sampler for four. The shrimp were very fishy smelling which is not good. You don’t want fresh shrimp to smell very fishy. They were okay. Oh no bad reactions. The clams were all right. Barely any flavor to them. The tuna tartar tasted like just avocado. They did not do the tuna tartar well at all.
Ultimately here I’d say save your money and go somewhere else. There’s a lot better options to get food around here. It’s overpriced for a very ritzy atmosphere that does not deliver
Location is very convenient, food is high quality, and staff are professional. Great selection of choices, classic Americana and plenty of seafood. Drinks available as well – would check ahead to make sure available, as corporate usage of this place seems quite frequent.
Excellent place to enjoy a meal when staying at the attached hotel.
I also want to give a huge shout-out to the hostess working tonight. Unfortunately, I didn’t get her name due to how busy it was, but she was truly amazing. I even remembered her from our first visit, which speaks volumes about how great she is at her job.
That said, I witnessed something this evening that was very disappointing. From where I was seated, I observed what appeared to be a manager speaking to her in an aggressive and unprofessional manner. She had been asked about seating a large party and calmly explained that the timing wasn’t ideal to seat them right away. In response, this staff member became visibly upset and raised their voice at her. The hostess walked away afterward, and it was uncomfortable and upsetting to witness as a guest.
Rider is a great place with good drinks and food, but seeing staff treated this way is concerning. I truly hope upper management addresses this issue, as no employee deserves to be treated like that — especially someone who clearly cares about doing their job well.
