We’ve visited another Rick’s location on North College Ave a few times before but this is our first visit to this location, which was once a Dixie Cafe..
Let me just say that Rick’s offers a very wide selection of treats.. If you hanker for cakes, cookies, donuts, cupcakes, brownies, cinnamon rolls, other pastries, or their very famous petit fours, then Rick’s is your spot..
On this visit my bride enjoyed a maple iced long john donut and I enjoyed the same, but filled with whipped cream.. More on that in a moment.. We also selected four petit fours to carry home to central Oklahoma to enjoy with coffee..
I have been a fan of white cream filled donuts for as long as I can remember.. They are widely available in my hometown in SW Ohio, but they’re not readily available in central Oklahoma.. Trying Rick’s variant was a first for me and I’m very pleased with my choice..
Rick’s will fill their long john donuts on request with their whipped cream being one of about 7-8 options.. The whipped cream isn’t overly sweet or rich, which made for a perfect pairing with the maple iced donut.. They filled from both ends, too, which allowed for whipped cream being present in nearly every bite, with only a small portion of the middle of the donut lacking that extra decadence..
The donut itself was delightfully fresh, the maple icing also not overly sweet but having a great maple flavor.. My wife, who is originally from the Fayetteville area and a long-time Rick’s customer, remarked that she had forgotten just how good Rick’s donuts were..
At the end of the day, this visit to this Rick’s location cemented our decision to make Rick’s a “must visit” for any of our future road trips to NWA and the greater Fayetteville area.. This location is beautifully decorated, is warm and inviting, and offers sufficient seating should one wish to enjoy their purchases on location..
Thanks for the wonderful experience.. We’ll see you the next time we’re in town!!
Very charming inside, love the different areas and what they offer. Lots to choose from! We got a bit of a selection since we don’t live here. First impressions, wow amazing looks to good to eat.
My fav was the cake donut
Didn’t like anything else just way too sweet for my taste buds. I was hoping to like the sugar cookie however the tie dye cookie frosting tasted too much like a alcohol from either the dye or flavoring. Not a fan.
My husband wished they had apple fritters when we went in but he tried the blueberry fritter instead he liked it.
Both petit cakes were lovely just too sweet and too much frosting. Carrot cake needed a balance to cut through sweetness. Chocolate chip cookie was okay kinda dry, chocolate flavor was good different than a chocolate chip.
The girls were friendly and helpful when I had questions. Still a super cute bakery to check out, they have coffee you could try if your not into sweets.
Lots of parking!
(If anyone was wondering, I order the cake. I’m surprised you didn’t take the time to make a funny comment.)
Not only are the cakes beautiful to the eyes they are delightful on the tastebuds! The staff is so helpful and professional. If you need a cake don’t go anywhere else but Rick’s Bakery!!!
We also bought two cupcakes when we picked up the cake and they were not good at all!! Very dry and tasted old. I would not recommend the cupcakes.
