If you’re looking for a new staple on Geary, Rice & Shine is it. I stumbled in here for the first time just a few weeks ago, and it has already earned a permanent spot in my rotation.
The Food
On my first visit, the staff steered me toward the crispy pork and rice, and “unbelievable” is an understatement. The crunch and flavor were spot on. Since then, I’ve been back multiple times, and their recommendations haven’t missed once.
Today was one of those freezing San Francisco afternoons, and they suggested the duck soup. It was exactly what I needed – deeply flavorful, incredibly warming, and clearly made with care.
The Service
What really sets this place apart, though, is the hospitality. Despite only coming here for a few weeks, the staff already remembers me. They treat you like a regular from day one, always ready with a personalized suggestion for something new to try.
Bottom Line: Amazing food, even better people. Whether you’re craving that crispy pork or need to escape the cold with a bowl of soup, you can’t go wrong here.

Food was amazing! Definitely eating here again. Ordered the pad kee mao with flat rice noodles – it usually comes with spaghetti, red curry with chicken and jasmine rice and a Thai tea. The food was a good level of spicy. Great service! The two women serving us were so kind and paid attention to small details. They turned the paper from the straw into a rose!

This is a relatively new restaurant in this area, but after ordering this rice and pork leg stew to try as my lunch, it is taste very much like those dishes I ordered in Bangkok, Thailand. The combination of it spicy homemade sauce that the owner told me she made it herself. She also indicates that she prepare most of the food herself with some help from her Thai staffs she hired from Thailand. The owner is native Thai and it seems she took pride in her cooking and restaurant. Give it a try and you will know what I mean. I also had the tradition coconut pudding dessert and it is quite delicious. I am not from San Francisco but passing by on my business trip and has cravings for Thai food. A solid 8.5 out of 10 for sure. Friendly staff and owner thet will come to chat with you.

Get the hot wings. Best thing we got, as good as San Tung – but less crispy and more tender meat. Veggies are fresh and spicy. Duck curry was ok, duck was too fatty but curry was delicious, I liked the pineapple chunks, paired well with coconut rice.

Great food and service! Portion sizes are good and the Thai iced tea is not overly sweet, we really liked it. Our favorite was the mango fried rice, but also liked the pad see ew because they don’t overcook the noodles like many Thai spots do.

Just visited this lovely spot today for brunch. My niece had the pancakes which went down well, and myself and two friends shared a few dishes, the highlights of which were the pork skewers and the fried chicken and ginger rice. I will definitely be going back for those and to try a few more. They were DELICIOUS. The accompanying sauces added so much to the dishes and the pork and chicken were cooked perfectly. We also had some stick rice which was so good. The service was fantastic and they were so friendly and attentive. Can’t wait to go back.
