10/10 ribs
Typically, I’ve seen fresh brisket sliced and then chopped the next day with sauce and chilies, but not fresh brisket pulled. After tasting it, I can understand their choice—this brisket is slightly leaner than the classic Texas style. However, it still held its own when sliced. The fat was perfectly rendered, the meat was tender, and the smoke ring was just right. The bark on the brisket added an incredible depth of flavor.
The sides were some of the best I’ve ever had. The mac n’ cheese, with its bold kick from the chiles, was outstanding. The beans were rich and flavorful, and both the biscuit and the bacon-flavored potato salad were excellent. The sauces leaned more toward Carolina/molasses-style, but the “hooch” sauce stood out—it was intensely spicy and vinegar-forward, which I loved since I’m partial to Georgia-style BBQ sauces.
Overall, Rhodies BBQ exceeded my expectations with its exceptional value, outstanding flavors, and flawless execution of traditional smoking techniques. Even by Texas standards, I would consider this excellent barbecue. My wife’s pulled pork was also fantastic, rounding out an unforgettable meal. Thank you for bringing a taste of Texas to my plate!
Maybe have samples of the sauce or let the customer put the sauce on at the table. My impression is you are just not trying. I eat very often. I eat Thai food in Thailand so I understand degrees of spiciness.
I love smoked foods. In fact, I smoke my own ribs, but I’ve gotta say these ribs were better than mine. They literally just melted in your mouth. I talked the owner-Who is a super friendly person by the way. He’s got a very nice smoker that is state of the art and uses hickory.
He said he smokes the meats I think nine hours or maybe even 14 but it is really worth the money.
He also makes his own barbecue sauces, which are excellent. There’s mild spicy and extra spicy.
I forget the name of the southern barbecue style Stew but you’ve gotta try it. It’s incredible-He said he patterned it after barbecue places in South Carolina.
I highly recommend you stopping right off the freeway here in Preston across from the soccer fields because it’s excellent food. It supports a small business during these tough times but most of all it’s incredible barbecue.
They have big screen televisions in there. Also if you wanna watch a game or whatever while you’re sitting.
Everything was great, but we agreed the brisket and beans were our favorites. The spicy sauce was delicious and not overly spicy.
We will definitely be back when in the area!
Note that I took my food to go back to Seattle, so it will look a little less smooshed in real life.
We will definitely be back.
