We popped in for a late lunch, having never visited before. The staff were very helpful and attentive. The food was lovely, we all had a baguette. Reasonable prices and it got quite busy while we were there. The only let down was sadly the other customers, some becoming frustrated they couldn’t find somewhere to sit, obviously not the staffs fault. It did make us feel like we needed to leave as soon as we had finished, obviously a good sign that it’s a great place. But we will be back when we are next in Ludlow.

Went for a meal with family expecting a lovely meal. Ordered the 8oz sirloin steak to be cooked medium to well done.when the meal came the steak was grey and did not look cooked. I had the steak Sent back and it came back exactly the same. When I called for the manager he said that’s how we cook it. Ihave never had a steak like it before it was shocking and expensive. They need to get a proper Chef who can cook very disappointed

Visited for a tea and expected a decent cuppa as they have called it a Tea Room, It’s written on the sign. Disappointed to find no tea pots available, no sandwiches or cakes or anything close to what you might expect in a tea room. Service was nonchalant and worse still the server clearly did not know how to make a tea as what was served was a weak tea in a huge Starbucks cup (tea bag added after water). When we asked where to place the tea bag, which was floating limply on top of the water, the chap said “just leave it on the table”. Small details yes, but when you name a venue as Tea Room you have to at least ensure you have tea pots, decent tea and staff who know how to serve it. The decor looked newly refurbished but was a bit soulless. Hopefully this place improves as it could be much better.

Being a Ludlow resident, I have always been proud of The Feathers being in my home town,and have regularly visited over the years with my Husband and little Westie dog.
So today,as my adult Son was visiting me here in Ludlow,we made a beeline for the hotel,expecting the usual friendly welcome and to be able to choose a nice pre Christmas lunch.
After what seemed quite a while,my Son was still waiting to be acknowledged by a male and a female at the reception desk, but neither made eye contact, but continued to look down and carry on with some other tasks behind the counter.
Whilst I appreciate the hotel does get busy,and it is just 10 days to Christmas, having been in retail myself,it really is always good manners, to just glance up and say “be with you soon” or similar.
When my Son eventually managed to get some attention, the male snorted – “no food today – a private function”, but there were no signs up stating this,then no apology So in consquence we gathered our belongings and made our way over to The Bull hotel – what a difference! We were made so welcome and had a fabulous lunch with “Agnes” the westie sitting at my side, where service was excellent,and our custom was appreciated!
Because I like The Feathers,I guess I will visit again, or will be missing out personally on using such a lovely old historical hotel,purely because of the disinterest in providing good service of these two employees.
But do hope my remarks on here get noticed by management at The Feathers…..this is definitely a way to lose business

We went to the restaurant. Had a drink in the bar first and then a delicious but huge bowl of mushroom soup and chicken balti which was checked breast with balti sauce and rice which was perfectly cooked and very tasty. The homemade poppadom was too thick but not a deal breaker. The cheese soufflé was delicious but collapsed. The service was great and very charming.

Had lunch here on a short visit to Ludlow. This early 17th century hotel with its incredibly detailed wood carving is full of character and charm. One of the gables actually appears to lean! Inside there’s a cosy lounge bar with comfy sofas and a log fire, but I had my lunch in the pleasant (but over-modernised) tea room. They do sandwiches, soup and other light meals as well as a cream tea. Service was a bit slow but the lunch when it arrived was really good. Had a smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich with a tasty red coleslaw and salad with pickled cucumber and cauliflower. The sandwich was generously filled and the thick seeded bread was soft and very fresh. Tea was served in a pretty china teapot, with china cup and saucer. The meal cost that bit more than average but then the food was above average quality. Would come again.
