Will definitely be back again. Cant wait to try more food.
Stopped by Krong Thai on a rainy day in Gatineau, looking for something warm and spicy. The owner greeted me warmly and asked if I wanted coconut milk in my Tom Yum soup—a first for me! I opted for the traditional version without it, and he mentioned that’s how he prefers it too. That little exchange set the tone for what turned out to be an unforgettable meal.
The soup was exceptional, not overly spicy, but perfectly balanced with a rich, savoury depth. The broth was infused with fresh lemongrass and coriander root, giving it a vibrant, layered flavor. The shrimp were plentiful and juicy, soaking up all the goodness of the broth, and the mushrooms were large and perfectly sliced, adding great texture.
This was hands down the best Tom Yum soup I’ve ever had. You can taste the care and authenticity in every spoonful. I’m already planning my next visit to explore more of the menu.
Highly recommend Krong Thai to anyone looking for authentic Thai cuisine in Gatineau. A true hidden gem!
Table hôte is main course + $10 or you pick what they have in the menu.
Overall the food is not that great as I love food and cook Asian food regularly.
Coconut curry was light.
None of their dishes were spicy so for those who can’t or cannot take spice it is not an issue
Main thing in seafood plate is preparation. Unfortunately they use precooked frozen shrimps. It is a huge disappointment to me.
I arrived around 11:40, roughly forty minutes after the restaurant opened, so it was empty aside of myself and staff. I ordered a Beef Pad Thai to go after browsing the menu.
Unfortunately, I had issues with my debit card on my end so I paid cash. A tad bit of an embarrassing situation.
Although the food was nothing spectacular, it was of adequate quality, and the portions were appropriate for the cost, resulting in a filling meal. It came with an almond cookie, pepper and salt, an 11g packet of siracha sauce, and 6ml packet of soya sauce. As well as a set of utensils. (A small thing but many places, surprisingly. Seem to forget this without it specifically being requested.)
The wait time was less than five minutes, and the staff was very courteous and professional regarding my situation, which is why I am giving a rating of five stars. Otherwise, I’d be leaning more around three to four stars, as in average.
The pho barely tasted anything. The beef is overcooked and the ~two~ “fresh leaves of basil” brown and slimey..18$ really? Disappointing. The canned thai tea was really good tho.
