The heart and soul of Republica, Lexi, the owner, is a remarkable host who exudes passion for her establishment and her patrons. Her welcoming demeanor sets the tone for an enjoyable dining experience, where you feel like part of a larger community rather than just another customer.
During my visit, I was fortunate to have Hailey as our waitress whose service was impeccably attentive and genuinely friendly. She took the time to ensure that all of our needs were met and that our experience was nothing short of exceptional. Her recommendations added a personal touch that made our meal even more enjoyable.
As for the food, I opted for the Fish and Chips, which was a revelation. The dish arrived beautifully presented and lived up to its reputation. Each piece of fish was not only crispy but also fresh, clearly reflecting the kitchen’s dedication to quality. The light, golden batter ensured that the fish was perfectly cooked and flaky on the inside. Accompanying the dish was coleslaw that was bursting with flavor – the perfect crunchy counterpart to the fish. The tartar sauce, too, was noteworthy; its rich, creamy texture complemented the fish beautifully, elevating the meal to new heights.
In conclusion, Republica in Berkeley is more than just a restaurant—it’s a celebration of community, flavor, and the joy of dining together. With delicious food, a cozy atmosphere, and attentive service from a passionate team, it’s no wonder that I look forward to my next visit. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy a meal in a fun and welcoming environment.
Our food came out hot and quick, especially for a Saturday evening. We had the Plato potatoes and spicy goat cheese crostini to start. Both were full of flavor and absolutely delicious. Some of the best fries I’ve ever had.
For our mains, I had the republica chopped salad with chicken – the dates and walnuts paired with goat cheese were super tasty. Next time I order this I think I’ll ask for no corn, it didn’t seem to go with for my pallet. My husband had the village burger. We try bites of each other’s meals when we go out and it was absolutely delicious. If you like lamb this is a must.
The only thing not pictured is the coffee, which might just be my new favorite. I ordered a cup and our waitress brought it out in a stainless steel French press. I may have to get one of these for myself. The coffee was brewed to perfection, so smooth, not cheap tasting like you’d normally get at a restaurant, and best of all, it stayed hot in that French press. I purchased a bag of the coffee on my way out.
There’s only one reason I’m giving four stars; because of the outdoor atmosphere being along the busy street. Adding some tall plants or trees against the fence would make a big difference. Although that’s not to say we won’t be back and sit outside. It was still lovely with the string lights. This is a great spot for a date, meeting up with friends, coming as a family, or even a solo lunch or dinner. We’ll definitely be back.
The location was cute with both indoor and outdoor seating. We sat inside at a table that was surrounded by Hockey memorabilia. It was a cute corner of the restaurant.
We started with the Tomato Burrata Flatbread shareable. It was great and a good way to start the meal. For being a cauliflower based flatbread, it was still crispy crust with that perfect pairing of tomatoes and burrata. For our main meal, we each ordered a salad. I went for the small Mitch’s Salad and it was nothing special. I didn’t add any extra protein and probably should have. While our main was nothing that would drive us to return to this location, the starter and the fact that we could walk here does encourage us to return and give some of The Main Dishes or Handhelds a chance next time. I wouldn’t return for just the salad options.
