The wine list is broad with some very good wines. Some are available bu the glass.
The plates, the little lamp are very elegant.

We had a fantastic tome at Bistro Ateneu. They have just moved to a new location (former Bistro Francais), in an old house which is beautifully renovated, and with this occasion also updated their menu. The food is under the concept of New Romanian Cuisine and every item we tried from the menu was quite exquisite, being a successful reinterpretation of a specific ingredient or classical Romanian dish, but with some sort of twist, which surprises in a pleasant way. We particularly enjoyed the zander, as well as the Caviar with sour cream and pickled lovage, which is a splendid balancing act of acidity, sweetness and flavor. The wine pairing was perfect and very well matched to the dishes and the final desert is a perfect ending to a great journey. The staff was very friendly and attentive, as well as knowledgeable about the food and the wines. Highly recommended!

The service was more than awkward. The waiter had very aggressive upselling strategies. He kept insisting that we order more even after we politely declined the same offer several times. Our legitimate questions about menu items (such as ingredients and allergens) were answered with an demonstratively irritated attitude.
There is a very obvious disproportion between the price range and pretentiousness of this place and the experience it actually delivers. The food is indeed good but not outstanding enough to make up for the awkward service and for the superficial maintenance of the interior.
