Locals nearly rioted when this pizza speakeasy shut down a few years ago, and then greeted its reopening like the Rapture. Red Top Pizza By Penny’s (formally known as Penny’s Pizza) keeps strange hours, so you’ll have to show up Thursday through Sunday for its thin, crisp pies with perfect, pocked and cornmeal-dusted crusts. And don’t expect anything fancy; this is just a couple kids and the ovens, delicious sweet-tart red sauce, and a white version with rich, creamy ricotta tucked beneath good mozzarella and sprinkled with salty, tasty sautèed garlic. Like all good speakeasies, you enter through a back door hidden from the street. Unlike most speakeasies, we have a sign. Originally established in 1970 and reopened in 2009.

We recently moved in the area and just tried Red Top Pizza for the first time! It’s exceptionally good! Thinner crispy crust, which is my favorite!! Extra delicious tomato sauce and cheese! Not greasy!
The staff were wonderful when we picked up the pizza we got some history of its unique location. (Also it’s not in a strip mall which is nice!) Looking forward to getting other menu items as well there!!

It simply doesn’t get any better! Despite a little name change, Penny’s Pizza still remains as an institution in the area, and a must-have whenever possible.

Been getting Penny’s since I was a kid. The pizza is closer to a tomato pie with cheese, with a really good crust. The tomato sauce is sweet and the cheese balances it out. I usually get it plain, but I like putting garlic powder on it at home. It’s different than an average pizza, so don’t be surprised by that.
There is no indoor seating, but they have outdoor seating when its warm out.

Food is decent but the service is awful. They tell you a time, text you its being prepared, you show up 20 minutes later and it hasn’t even been started yet. You do nothing more than remark in surprise about said text and some tiny clown with a beard and no hair net (none of the three fully bearded men working were wearing one) straight up mocks you and gives you attitude. We’ve always ordered delivery but never again. If they are willing to be so uncleanly like that up front I can’t even imagine what the kitchen must look like.

AMAZING!! Been meaning to stop in and always forget as they are only open 4 days a week. Remembered today and took a nice drive from Phoenixville to order their “Red Top”. DELICIOUS!! Didn’t even leave the parking lot before downing 3 slices! The sauce has the slightest touch of sweetness (not overdone like other places) and it very good. The cornmeal crust is super light & has great crunch. After the 3 slices, I didn’t even feel like I ate any, it’s that light of a pizza. With so few doing Red Top pies, I’ll definitely be back (oh and don’t worry, they can do cheese on top of you are not a fan of sauce on top). If your in the Royersford/Upper Providence area on the weekend, stop in and grab a pie.
