Had a very pleasant experience tonight at the Red Star Chinese restaurant. We ordered a nice assortment of dishes. The hot and sour soup is incredible. It really warms you up on a cold night. We also had the fried noodles with shrimp and tofu with fish. Both were excellent. We were greeted with a very warm and friendly greeting by our server Renee. She was a wonderful server and knew the menu very well. I highly recommend this place if you’re in Stonewall and hopefully you are lucky enough to have Renee.

Red Star has a nice big menu, which seems to be the rarity in Manitoba. That was my main draw to this restaurant, the variety.
First visit to Red Star we dined in the restaurant and I honestly thought that the food was fantastic. It came out piping hot and the waitress was very nice. Ambiance in the sitting area was quite nice. However the bathroom was not great, as it was dirty and smelled awful.
Fast forward a bit we decided to do a large takeout order. We ordered a lot of different dishes and my first thought was why are the takeout bags so small? I began to worry we didn’t have enough food to feed our party. Unpacking the paper takeout bags it was clear that portion sizes are extremely small here. I’ve never seen such small portion sizes with Chinese takeout. The absolute standout was the jaw dropping size of the side sauce (such as sweet and sour sauce, honey garlic sauce and lemon sauce) they are absolutely ridiculous! Literally only enough for one person! There is not enough sauce to go around a table of people. I’ve taken pictures, as you will see I’ve placed a fortune cookie beside the sauce cup for size reference. Anyone who actually likes a lot of sauces on their order will be hugely disappointed in this! I would never ever order takeout for a crowd here.
As for the flavour of the food, it was decent. I just cannot wrap my head around the portion size of anything for the high price point they charge!
I’ve given this restaurant a fair trial and am sad to say we won’t be back.

We get takeout here often, the staff is always very pleasant and efficient. I’ve never had to wait more than 2-3 minutes after arriving for my order. The food is fantastic and without a doubt the best Chinese food In the town of stonewall and even Winnipeg. We will continue to support them for many years to come! Thank you Red star!

Terrible portions for the price you pay. Ordered 140$ worth of food, nowhere near enough to feed the family. 1 dish per person ordered, everyone but the kids still hungry. Doesn’t even come with free white rice on orders ? Won’t ever order from here again, would of been worth driving to Winnipeg for the price and have had a full belly with leftovers.

The food was good. Definitely happy they could do gluten free. Service was great . Computers were down so they did everything manually. Still attentive even though they were rushing around.

First time visitor to this restaurant as i dont live locally. What an amazing experience. Server was super friendly and accommodating. Have food sensitivities which were absolutely no problem. Made me a custom dish exactly to my order, fresh and delicious. Definitely worth your time to stop in. Will be back for sure!

The food was good but I had ordered ginger beef only to find out there’s no ginger in their ginger beef. They make it with a type of BBQ sauce according to the waitress. I wasn’t offered a discount when I expressed my dissatisfaction with the dish.

Ordered a pick up dinner for six plus another two dishes on Jan 1. They missed two dishes but prepared and delivered to our home which was great service. Portion sizes are small and the ones that should contain chicken, pork or beef had very little meat but rather an abundance of vegetables including a lot of diced tomatoes. Disappointed in the food and quantity. Will order elsewhere in the future.
