The Burnt ends were really good and same with the Lamb shoulder, the Brisket was okay but id try something else next visit. The sides were great as well being perfectly golden and cooked through. Portion sizing was enough for me and the wife and for $75 for the platter you can’t go wrong. The Jalepeno poppers were good but two for $10 seemed a bit steep.
Drinks were reasonably prices at approximately $10 or less for a beer and Jack and coke being $12.50.
Would definitely visit again.
The staff was friendly but the service was bit slow. We loved our overall experience and highly recommend this place. If you love BBQ and you are in Bendigo this is a must visit place.
The crème brûlée for dessert is delicious.
Definitely will be going back. I’d like to try more of the meat options on the menu.
Thank you for such an enjoyable night!
Booked for the whiskey tasting and the three course meal for 7pm, however it was an hour before we finally got a table provided inside.
In that time we were offered a free complimentary drink for the wait as one woman was holding up our table, which we received around 7:15pm. One of the drinks was a Pinot Grigio (expected just a glass) but instead they walked out a full, unopened bottle in and ice bucket and left us with it.
We watched as another group of people went in and were seated at their table.
Around 7:45pm we were still waiting outside (next to the road right where people are parking cars) and suddenly our entree and first drink is served as the one table we were waiting on was still being held up by this one patron. Also turns out the drink poured with the entree was scotch, not whiskey as advertised.
We finally are offered a table inside around 8pm. Very cramped and crowded inside and felt very awkward trying to squish past other patrons having their meals just to get to our seats. My partner and I are very hungry at this stage (the entree was very light) and so around 8:20pm, my partner walked up this one of the two young waitresses to ask when our mains are coming as we do have a pet at home waiting we have to tend to.
He was advised that everyone else’s desserts needed to go out first and our mains hadn’t even been started yet (we watched as they poured 10 x tasting glasses of liquor for dessert for the 10 other patrons). It was offered that our dessert could be packaged up for us to take home if we were in a rush.
Please note, this is a pre-set menu where each course is suppose to have a tasting glass of whiskey served with each course, including dessert at $85 a head.
We did not order anything else during our wait. We waited nearly 1.5 hours to be told we would need to wait longer for a proper meal.
At this stage, we were very unhappy and left. Allowing people to wait this long whilst drinking and no access to food is in breach of an RSA and we didn’t finish the bottle of Grigio provided.
We were then contacted by the same waitress, who apologised for the long waits, but wanted to settle payment for the entrees and the bottle of Grigio. It was evident on this call that she was not experienced with conflict management and this situation should have been handled by a senior staff member. We agreed to settle the payment for the entrees and I advised the waitress to please have her manager (she identified that the chef is that person) to give me a call to discuss the situation with them and how poorly the evening went.
To the defence of the two waitresses, I do believe they made a lot of mistakes last night, however I don’t feel they are to blame. The situation should have been better controlled a senior staff member. We have lived in Bendigo for a very long time, dined at many places previously, worked is hospitality so we understand the hustle. But this was our first and last time attending Red Smoke.
