Red Rock Barbecue
First Visit Review
My wife and I made our first visit to Red Rock Barbecue, and overall, it was a great experience.
From the moment we walked in, the service was excellent, the music set the perfect vibe, and the cocktails were delicious. You can tell right away that they know what they’re doing with the smoker — the meats were smoked beautifully, tender, and falling off the bone.
Standout Dishes
Burnt Ends – Tender and flavorful.
Garbage Fries – Absolutely fantastic.
Mac and Cheese – Magnificent. That smoked gouda did the trick.
Brussels Sprouts – Very good and prepared like a true vegetable — not overly sweet like a dessert.
Baby Beet Salad – So delicious we ordered a large portion to go.
Cornbread Cobbler – The surprise of the night. I had never heard of it before, and I highly recommend it. Perfectly balanced with no overpowering sweetness or heaviness.
We also tried the Lion’s Share, which was very tasty overall. The only surprise was the wings — smoked perfectly, but noticeably lacking seasoning.
Room for Improvement
The only critique comes down to seasoning. A little salt and pepper would elevate several dishes from great to exceptional. Nothing crazy — just a slight boost. They are clearly masters of the smoker; a touch more confidence with seasoning would make everything shine even more.
That said, I would much rather have food slightly under-seasoned than over-seasoned.
✅ Final Verdict
Red Rock Barbecue is definitely worth coming back to, and we absolutely plan to return. Great atmosphere, strong service, delicious cocktails, and expertly smoked meats — just needs a little extra seasoning touch to be top-tier.
Would recommend.

The Boulder sandwich was very good. I opted to add pimento cheese. I do feel for the price however, it should come with fries, or a side. I tried the original bbq sauce and the South Carolina sauce, both were good. The service was good. I wouldn’t normally get a burger at a barbecue place, but I might try the smash burger next time. Would recommend.

As a Texan transplant, I’m so happy to have found amazing Southern style BBQ. Red Rock is the best that we have found in Michigan in our first year.i highly recommend this place. They have excellent bbq and sides. They have a list of amazing bbq sauces and they have an amazing happy hour as well. They have an expansive cocktail and beer list. This one will go into our regular rotation .The bartender Charles was very knowledgeable about everything and provided great guidance on the drinks and food. 10/10

My wife and I came here for my birthday/ late Valentine’s date and this place didn’t disappoint as usual. My wife and I shared the Mac n cheese, then I got the boulder sandwich and she got the apple butter pulled pork sandwich.
I definitely recommend this place for a nice date night dinner. This was also recently upgrade to be a cocktail bar so nice couches and updated pain and lighting.

Can’t believe I drove by this place for so long without realizing what it was. Seriously best BBQ I have had in Southeast MI. Literally everything we had off the menu was amazing. Mac and Cheese along with the brisket was the best I think I’ve ever had anywhere. The quantities are smaller but prices are decent. It’s definitely not the classic pile of meat on a cafeteria tray style BBQ, but the flavor makes up for it. The vibes inside were awesome, dark speakeasy with exposed brick walls and low couches. Great cocktails and large selection of Shorts beer.

This place was extremely busy so service was extremely slow. Not their fault though because they were running. Everyone was very friendly and was trying to be accommodating. I got the burnt ends and baked beans. I won’t get the burnt ends again because they were all fat. My friend got the mac and cheese and it was delicious. I would probably go back and just get something different.

WOW. Had an incredible meal at Red Rock tonight — everything was delicious, from the tender meat to the mac and cheese and cornbread. I’ve been coming here for years, from its first incarnation to Bitter Truth — but the kitchen killed it tonight. The cocktails are top tier too. The servers were attentive and friendly.

Great experience all around, will be back soon!

We were so happy to see this place reopen. We desperately wanted to love it, but just couldn’t. The service was poor. The brisket and pulled pork were great. The ribs were just ok. The “Garbage Fries” were fantastic. They were the best part of the meal although a bit over priced for how small the portion was. The BBQ sauces were lacking. The $4 for a can of coke was ridiculous. They charge what most other BBQ places charge but they don’t give you any sides with it. We will wait a few months and give it another try. Hopefully our results will be better.

Red Rock was AMAZING! I’m from NC and this was the best BBQ that I’ve had this far north! The brisket burnt ends were so good, they didn’t need sauce. Speaking of sauces… The Carolina and South Carolina sauces were on point with authentic flavor of the regions. My personal favorite was the Sweet Hot sauce, it was the perfect balance of heat to sweet. We got the brussel sprouts and Mac and Cheese and both were out of this world! The M&C especially! It was awesome! Served in small cask iron skillets. Saved the best for last… The smoked wings were THE BEST! I am super picky about my wings and these were the most crispy smoked wings I’ve ever had! Amazing!

Very nice upscale BBQ establishment. Waitstaff was friendly and helpful. We ordered lots of different choices and shared with one another. Everything was very tasty and I was very pleased with the Mac and cheese, I saw it was on the menu as a stand alone meal and they pulled it off. The prices didn’t break the bank either. Ribs, brisket and pulled pork were all nicely done….I’m coming back to try the chicken!!
