Red Mesa Restaurant has been a landmark for over 25 years, introducing St Pete to the rich and varied world of alta cocina fare, regional traditions, and amazing sangrias from around the hemisphere.
The Red Mesa Sangria Bar, the original, with an ever changing selection of seasonal, classic, and fresh new offerings – perhaps a secret recipe from a shack on a Cozumel beach or a longtime regional favorite.
Chef Chris Fernandez elaborates our monthly specials menu drawing from his collection of recipes from his hometown of Oaxaca, his travels throughout the region, and time spent with fellow chefs wherever he goes.
Mexican classics & creative Southwestern dishes served in a bright space with a lively vibe.

It’s alright. Worth going out of your way for? Probably not. Worth fighting downtown traffic and finding parking over? Not for me, at least. The service wasn’t very good. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were just not into it. They were out of something they need for their “signature” mezcal drink so couldn’t try that. Don’t waste your money on the salsa – chips were stale and the salsa is a puree, almost like soup.
Entrees were decent. Breakfast burrito had great presentation. The barbacoa bowl, for $22, needed more to justify the price. It’s meat and onions and rice. I’d flesh it out with bell peppers, jalapeno, more than one little sprig of cilantro, and some beans to accompany the rice I would say.
I think there’s just better options downtown.

Good food. Place could definitely use a make over. The lighting is very depressing inside. And the patio outside could be much nicer. They need to put some serious money into this place.
The homemade guac and homemade salsa is GREAT! Definitely need to make the inside cuter and more festive. But overall yeah I like this place. Service is hit or miss like most places. But they can’t really control that.
Also good deals on drinks!

Great service and nice dining environment. Overall the food, nicely presented and good quality ingredients, average overall flavor profiles. The guac was okay, but missed out on being as good as I hoped for what tasted to be not the freshest avacados, or maybe it was made earlier in the day versus right then. The queso was okay just okay. Not very thick and even after letting it cool a bit, it just did not thicken up. Enchilada Trio stays with the theme. Black beans were nice. The rice better than most Mexican establishments. But the enchiladas, just was not a fan of the sauce on the cheese and chicken one. The brisket one sauce was okay.

We had an excellent meat on a Saturday, served by Christina C. She was attentive and courteous, understanding of dietary restrictions, pleasant, and the food was great. One meal was a trio of delicious cheese, vegetable, and brisket enchiladas, and the other a wonderful shrimp dish with garlic, tomato, and lime. A Bloody Mary and a delicious hibiscus iced tea were nice additions to the meal. Glad Christina C was our server, she was teriffic!

Red Masa is absolutely fantastic! The food is always fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared – every dish we’ve tried has been spot on. The service is just as impressive: friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, which makes the whole dining experience even better. The portions are generous, the atmosphere is inviting, and the team clearly takes pride in what they do. It’s one of those places where you can count on consistency every visit, whether dining in or ordering to go. If you’re looking for great food paired with great service, Red Masa is the place to go. Highly recommend!
