I recently ordered takeout from Red House Chinese Restaurant located at 3221 N Main St in Dayton, OH, and I wanted to share my experience. Upon arriving, I noticed that the inside of the restaurant was closed to customers due to “disorderly customers,” which was a bit concerning. There were signs taped to the door and windows informing patrons that takeout was the only option available. While the exterior and the situation gave off a slightly “ghetto” vibe, I decided to give it a shot anyway.
I ordered the orange chicken combo which came with pork fried rice however I exchanged it for chicken fried rice and it also came with a pork egg roll, which I exchanged for a shrimp egg roll and I ordered crab Rangoon. I also ordered soul chicken combo which came with shrimp fried rice in a pork eggroll. To my surprise, the food was quite good! I had heard mixed reviews about this place, but my first experience was positive. The orange chicken was flavorful, the fried rice was well-prepared, and the crab Rangoon had that delicious crunch I was hoping for.
However, the customer service could use some improvement. When I went inside to take some pictures and videos of the door area, I was told I couldn’t do that, which felt a bit unnecessary, especially since I had already taken a few photos before being approached.
Overall, I would consider returning to Red House for takeout, but I think I might stick to the items I enjoyed rather than trying a wide variety of options due to other reviews I’ve read. If you’re in the area and looking for a decent Chinese meal, this spot may surprise you!
P.S. I still call this false advertising. How can someone call this soy sauce when it’s not made with soybeans?
P.p.s. I’m starting to get the feeling that no “Chinese” restaurants here make fried rice. None of the budget “Chinese” restaurants put eggs in the fried rice. Cooking fried rice is supposed to be old white rice. Day old cooked rice. Oil, vegetables, seasonings and fried then egg well scrambled in. You guys here get old rice. With chicken bullet seasonings and oil. Unless you go to a real Chinese restaurant and shell out 14$. Even the smallest Chinese restaurants in Lubbock TX could cook real fried rice. But obviously not here in Dayton Ohio.
