The lovely couple who we are dog sitting for this week gave us a gift certificate for Red Fish. So, we made a reservation and ate there last night.

The space is really nice. Comfortable and inviting.
The service is TOP NOTCH.
There was a really good jazz type band playing in the bar room. Really enjoyed listening to them.

We started with a red wine and a Manhattan. Both were pretty good. The Manhattan was a bit expensive for the rye I ordered, but only a couple of bucks more than standard.

Shared a green fried tomato starter. Very tasty. Lots of greens but only two tomatoes. Could have gone heavier on the tomatoes and lighter on the greens. Otherwise, excellent.

The basket of bread they bring to the table was pretty good. Nice crust and just the right chew. Comes with some nice warm butter and a green salsa type spread that was an interesting change of pace that we enjoyed.

For dinner, I had the shrimp and grits. Excellent. The fried okra on top is a nice touch. The red sauce was spiced just right. My wife had the scallops. Now, I know seafood has gotten expensive… but $40+ for four scallops seems a bit excessive. She enjoyed them, but still. We got the impression that they knew this… because the mac & cheese that comes with it is served in a HUGE portion. The mac & cheese could have been a filling meal on its own. Definitely warranted a take home box. But, still a tasty dish.

Red fish was recommended to us by friends. We decided to check it out. Its a great setting, great wine choices, and we ordered the dish our friends recommended. The food was great, wine selection superb but that is where the positives end. The bartender was disorganized got us seated and then moved us because she seated us in reserved seats. She spent most of the time chatting to friends at the bar. We waited about 10 minutes to reorder drinks and then she tried to charge us $140 for four $10 glesses of wine!. My wife tried to explain our frustration and she turned her back and walked away. Needless to say service is a big part of the dining experience. Red Fish will not be added to our list of favorites HHI has so many wonderful options and as locals we support the non chain restaurants on the island 3-4 days a week.

Best bite of vacation so far… fried green tomato caprese! We also tried calamari, shrimp and lobster sandwich and roasted chicken with miso! Not a bad bite of food! Great service too!!!

We came as a group and ordered the deviled crab (yum) and the she crab soup and peeled shrimp. The she crab soup was not the best and was mistaken for grits and the peeled shrimp was lacking any flavor. The Oxtail saved the day and was so yummy! The fried chicken was good as well!

This was our first time on Hilton Head Island. We stumbled on this place while riding around and looking for a nice place to go eat. We definitely were not disappointed. It was a Sunday night, and we did not have reservations. I walked up to the Hostess and said that we had a party of 4 and asked if it was possible to get a table. The Hostess was very pleasant and stated that she would fit us in, but it would probably be a 15 to 20-minute wait. I asked if we could wait at the bar, and she politely pointed me to the area behind her workstation.
We walked over to the bar and a female bartender with a nice smile took our drink order and served us very quickly. The bar area had seating for dining adjacent to it. There was also a female guitar player performing music in the area. The music was loud enough to be heard but soft enough to carry on a conversation with guests. The area also had a piano, which was not being used but is a sign that music is played in this area on a regular basis.
After a brief self-guided tour of the restaurant. Red Fish is made up of several rooms, each room with its own personality. There is also an extensive outside seating area. One side has an outdoor fireplace. You will be amazed at the huge selection of wines on display. This restaurant could compete with many wine stores that I have visited. I took several pictures of the inside and outside of this restaurant. You need pictures to get the real feel of this beautiful restaurant.
The Hostess came over to us within 15 minutes and guided us to a table. The table was in the bar area but as I had stated earlier the music did not deter us from carrying on conversations or enjoying our meal.
Our waitress came over to our table and greeted us. She filled our water glasses and refilled our drink orders. She was very pleasant and answered questions regarding the menu. We started with a tomato, mozzarella, and peach appetizer (which was a special), a southwestern chopped salad, and a house salad. Our main courses were Blackened Grouper, a Salmon dish, Black Angus Ribeye, and a Bone-in KC Strip Steak. All the dishes were plated and prepared to perfection. I ordered the KC Strip Steak medium rare and as you can see from the picture, it was perfect.
The meals were absolutely perfect, and the only thing left on our table were empty plates. We did not have room for dessert but the ones that passed our table looked as good as the main courses. This is a fine restaurant and you get what you pay for but you will not be disappointed. If you are looking for a special meal on Hilton Head Island, then look no further.

We had an incredible dinner at Redfish and the standout dish by far was the shrimp and grits. Rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced—easily one of the best versions I’ve had. The shrimp were fresh and cooked just right, with a smoky, slightly spicy sauce that brought everything together. The grits were creamy and buttery with just the right texture—comfort food at its finest.

The atmosphere was upscale yet relaxed, with great service and a nice selection of wines and cocktails to complement the meal.

If you’re a fan of shrimp and grits, Redfish restaurant is a must-visit.

Had a fantastic meal at Red Fish 10.1.2023.
The blue crab dip and crab bisque were phenomenal. For entrees, we had scallops and the shrimp / crab burger.
Everything was prepared very well with the exception of the french fries (soggy).
Marissa was our server and she was excellent.
I would eat here again if visiting Hilton Head in the future.

Our waitress Jen was absolutely amazing. She was so attentive and kind. You can really tell she loves her job. The restaurant was patient with us when we asked to potentially move inside but ultimately decided outside. Our waitress also told us about the chef who is truly great at her craft and did not disappoint. Appetizers, entrees, and dessert were all so well done. Definitely worth the stop, and was a perfect start to our week in Hilton head! Service and food 11/10!

This place was a last-minute reservation. We are new to the Hilton Head area so we are exploring new restaurants and Hilton Head has plenty of top notch restaurants. This is a beautiful elegant, white tablecloth with candles type of restaurant. They have live piano music and you are literally and completely surrounded by racks upon racks of fabulous wines! The atmosphere in this restaurant is low lighting and warm with lots of wood and artwork. It almost has a slight Polynesian feel to it. The menu is simple but great! Everything was fabulous. Our waitress Betsy was extremely thorough and upbeat. I recommend this place if you feel like having an elegant dinner inside or even outside. You can have An Elegant white tablecloth inside or outside under twinkle lights Under the oak trees. I recommend this restaurant highly.
